| | Goal 5Demonstrates a plan for continued professional development~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I
believe that it is important to always be evolving as a professional
educator. The students who come into our classrooms are evolving
with the times, so why shouldn't the people who teach them? It is
important to find ways to further knowledge of practices and ideas that
can help our students learn best.In
IT 500, we completed an assignment that called for us to review two
professional organizations and two journals in the field. Through
this process, I found several resources that I plan on using to help my
development as an educator. I plan on joining a professional
organization and subscribing to two journals to help stay in tuned to
the newest trends in the field. The
first organization that I reviewd is the International Society for
Technology in Education (ISTE). The goal of this organization is
to inform educators about how to best use technology in their day to
day teaching. The reason that I think that thisorganization would be beneficial for me to join is because it is geared specifically for kindergarten through twelveth grade
school teachers, which is what I am. The majority of their
publications are concerend with helping school teachers on how to
integrate technology into their teaching. I
also think it would be beneficial for me to subscribe to professional
publications in the field; I found two such publications.
The first is the Journal of Educational Technology and Society,
which is produced by the ISTE. This journal would be helpful to
me because it does not focus on theoreitical concepts, but rather
practical applications for classroom teachers. The second publication is Leading and Learning With Technology.
The thing that drew me to this publication was that the articles
are written by professionals who are actually working in the education
field. Some are classroom teachers who do an exceptional job
using technology in their teaching. Other authors are
professionals who are employed as technology specialists in school or
district wide positions. The articles are focused on technology
pedagogy, which is an area that will be important for me as a classroom
teacher.
