Cassidy Aery

SIUE MARKETING AND MASS COMMUNICATIONS STUDENT

Learn more about me.

Where am I from?

I was born and raised in small town called Alton, Ill. From preschool to senior year of high school, I’ve attended area catholic schools and lived a pretty normal life. I’ve had most aspects of my life planned already from a young age. I knew I was going to attend SIUE since I was a child. It’s where my mom went to school and I liked the idea of staying local to save money.

What are you studying?

To be very technical, my major is Business Administration with a specialization in marketing and a minor in mass communications. I know it’s a mouth full. Some people might ask, what can you do with a degree like that? Well, I can answer because I’ve already done it before.

I got my first taste of marketing when I was a senior in high school. While working at a law firm, I was asked to go help the ladies in the marketing department on the 2nd floor. Little did I know that I would be introduced to a career field that I would end up loving. I went from making coffee and filing documents, to writing blogs/press releases, creating social media content, working in a team, and designing fliers. This is the type of work that gets me excited. I get to use my passion for writing and other artistic abilities in a professional setting. That’s why I chose marketing.

What do you like to do?

I love all things that have to do with art. When I was a child, I loved drawing, painting pictures, writing stories, and even making iMovies on my iPad. These interests have translated into my adulthood. Cinematography is a something that sparks my attention. Critiquing various movies or TV shows intrigues me. I also like to paint whenever I get down time as a stress reliever.

Another huge interest of mine is music. I’d say I like all sorts of music genres (pop, rock, rap, etc.). Growing up, my parents liked to play their 70’s and 80’s music in the car every single day. This had a major impact on my music taste. I’d say old rock is one of my favorite genres today.

What am I doing now?

I am currently interning at a marketing agency called Cork Tree Creative in Edwardsville. As their fall intern, I get to use my creative abilities once again. In a nutshell, I spend my days writing blogs and making social content for various businesses. I plan to graduate in the Spring of 2022. Thinking of life after college is nerve wrecking, but I’m also excited to see what life throws at me. Other than finding a stable job, I hope to gain more traveling opportunities. In the past year, I've been able to go to different parts of Tenessse and Florida. My life goal is to travel out of the country one day.
