Meet Us
Susanne James, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at SIUE. Dr. James is project director for the SIUE Virtual Professional Practice Lab. In addition to her work with the SIUE Virtual Professional Practice Lab, she teaches courses in educational research, effective instructional strategies, differentiated instruction, and accommodations and modifications of core curriculum. Dr. James was a classroom teacher of students with disabilities for 13 years in instructional and inclusion settings in Kansas and Missouri. Her research interests include virtual learning, co-teaching, teacher preparation and strategic instruction.
Anni Krummel Reinking, EdD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at SIUE. Dr. Reinking joined SIUE in 2016 after obtaining her EdD in curriculum and instruction from Illinois State University and working for one year as a visiting assistant professor at a small liberal arts school in Central Illinois. Dr. Reinking teaches courses in early childhood, including methods courses and assessment. Prior to entering higher education, she taught preschool, kindergarten, second, and early childhood special education at public, private and charter schools. Dr. Reinking is on the leadership team of several local and state organizations and is a frequent presenter at local, state and national conferences. Her current research involves examining how Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) curriculum can influence the brain development in early childhood students, as well as studying how STEM after-school programs can increase girls’ interest in STEM fields. Dr. Reinking’s current research also includes investigating how Virtual Learning Experiences (VLE) influence teacher preparedness. Finally, she continues her work focused on multicultural education and the importance of such topics with young students and their teachers. Dr. Reinking has served as author and co-author on a number of articles and presentations focused on such topics in the fields of early childhood education, multicultural education, STEM and virtual environments.
Barbara Martin, EdD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at SIUE. She teaches courses on differentiation, classroom learning environments and elementary math methods. With degrees in elementary education and curriculum instruction, Dr. Martin has specialized in the area of technology and math integration, as well as STEM integration in the elementary setting. She has published and presented on the following topics: technology integration in classrooms, higher education and teacher preparation programs, virtual learning environments, mathematics instruction in teacher preparation, and STEM in the elementary classroom.
