Connecting government and economic agencies to one another and to citizens is crucial to attracting and retaining businesses. The Ed/Glen Chamber is the local authority on that. The agency acts as a liaison between businesses and various groups. It also advocates for issues that are important to businesses.

The NCERC at SIUE conducts its own research as well as research on behalf of private clients to improve benefits of fuel ethanol production and use.

The Biotechnology Laboratory Incubator was designed to help remedy the shortage of multi-tenant wet lab buildings in the St. Louis area. The building houses Biology Labs, Chemistry Labs, GIS offices, and the School of Pharmacy Research Lab.
