Introducing a new mail package notification system!

University Housing is now using Send Suite Package Tracking to notify residents when a package has been received by University Housing. You will receive an email from “SIUE Housing Mail” when your package has arrived. Package slips will no longer be used in your mailboxes. Residents will be required to sign for their packages when they are picked up. All packages will continue to picked up from your housing community front desk or the Cougar Village Commons.

Reserve your space in University Housing for Fall 2019 and Spring 2020!

Current students can reserve their space on-campus for summer 2019, fall 2019 - spring 2020 during the housing reservation process beginning in January. The online application for space will be available online from October 24, 2018 - February 8, 2019. Current residents will have to complete the online application for space and pay the $200 advance payment by February 2, 2018. Current residents should not complete a new student application.

Take a tour of Cougar Village or Evergreen Hall! Evergreen Hall tours will take place on Wednesday, January 23 from 4-6 pm. The Evergreen Hall tours will meet in the Evergreen Hall Multifunction Room. Cougar Village tours will take place on Thursday, January 24 from 4-6 pm in apartment 522-1B. The tours are open house style, feel free to stop by anytime between 4 and 6 pm.

Facilities Issue?  Put in a workorder!

University Housing Facilities Management (UHFM) is the unit assigned to the development and maintenance of University Housing facilities and grounds. UHFM is responsible for repairing housing units, care of the grounds surrounding housing facilities, performs snow removal, maintains the cleanliness of common areas and offices in University Housing buildings, oversees pest control and much more.

In the event of any building or grounds related issues, Students need to initiate the repair by submitting a Maintenance Request to University Housing Facilities Management (UHFM). UHFM responds to student initiated repair requests as a first priority.  To complete a work order, click HERE!!!

University Housing does not insure the personal property of residents. Residents are strongly encouraged to insure their personal belongings while living in University Housing. Students can look into renter’s insurance or their parent/guardian homeowners’ policy for potential coverage options.

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has implemented the Illinois law that prohibits smoking and all tobacco related products into its policies and procedures.

The Career Development Center is pleased to announce that the permanent COUGAR CAREER CLOSET in our suite (Student Success Center, Room 0281) is now open for students.  Students can visit the closet to “shop” for professional attire for interviews, career fairs, networking events, and practicum/Co-op/internship experiences. All items are donated and students get all professional attire items free of charge.

Student can drop by the Career Development Center during our regular business hours and an appointment is not needed, however, calling our office in advance at 618-650-3708 to ensure that a staff member will be available to assist them is recommended.

• Students need to bring their Cougar Card for check-in at our front counter.
• Students can get 2 complete outfits plus accessories during each visit.
• Students can visit the Cougar Career Closet one time per month.

Would you like a chance to network with employers before or after the career fair?

The Career Development Center has a great volunteer opportunity for students to help at the career fair.  This gives students a chance to network with employers before and after the career fair. Students get a chance to make that first impression or leave that lasting impression with employers.  Students will be helping employers with a variety of tasks like helping employers in from the parking lot, walking employers to their career fair table, showing them where everything in located, working the registration tables, and helping them pack everything up at the end of the career fair. 

Volunteers are needed for the below dates and times:

Stalking Awareness           

January is the National Stalking Awareness Month. Stalking is a significant problem in the United States. According to the Stalking Resource Center, approximately 3.4 million people over the age of 18 are the victim of stalking each year. Furthermore, the prevalence of anxiety, insomnia, social dysfunction and severe depression is much higher among stalking victims than the general population.^ Following are some statistics:

• 78% of stalking victims are female while 87% of stalkers are male.*
• Less than 10% of stalking victims are stalked by a stranger.*
• 52% of stalking victims are between 18-29 years old.*
• There is a strong link between stalking and domestic violence; 81% of women who were stalked by a former intimate partner were also physically assaulted by that partner.*
• Intimate-partner stalkers frequently approach their targets and their behaviors escalate quickly.
• Weapons are used to harm or threaten victims in 1 out of 5 cases.**
• Stalkers use a variety of methods to stalk victims, including following the victim on foot or in a vehicle, or using e-mail, instant messaging, video cameras, digital cameras, listening devices or global positioning systems (GPS).

Things You Can Do:

• If you are in immediate danger, call 9-1-1. If you are not in immediate danger, call the local police non-emergency number.
• Trust your instincts and don’t downplay the danger.
• Don’t communicate with the stalker or respond to his/her attempts to contact you.
• Keep evidence of the stalking.  If a stalker follows or contacts you, make note of the date, time and location that the incident occurred.  Keep all e-mails, phone messages, letters and notes from the stalker.
• Obtain a court order that instructs the stalker to stay away from you.
• Decide in advance how you will respond if the stalker shows up at you home, office, school or somewhere else.
• Try not to maintain set habits. Periodically change your route to work as well as the time and day of the week that you conduct personal tasks such as grocery shopping.
• Develop a safety plan. Have friends or relatives stay with you and/or accompany you when you go places.
