A leading expert in persistent workplace aggression, Dr. Jan Kircher has a PhD in sociology, an MSW, more than 20 years of experience in diverse organizational settings, and is currently expanding her services to introduce preventative workshops and programming into organizations at-risk of employing potential aggressors.

Kircher has spent the last 15 years of her career in higher education and has presented locally, regionally and nationally across the U.S. for mental health and health workers, administrators, academics and other professionals. During her career, Kircher became aware of a social phenomenon called academic and/or workplace bullying.

First Safe Zone Ally Training Today

Safe Zone is once again offering Ally Training.

The goal of training is to provide attendees skills and understanding for supporting the LGBT community.

The SIUE Indian Student Association will present its annual celebration of Indian culture:

Diwali N Dandiya Night is a cultural event to showcase Indian tradition and culture to the community. A lavish buffet will be served, with the food being arranged from some of the best restaurants in St Louis.

Ticket costs are $10 for SIUE students and $17 for all others. Tickets are on sale at the Morris University Center Information Desk.

Last Lil' Cougar Clinic, Oct. 29

Alton Memorial Hospital and SIUE women's basketball are teaming up for the Lil' Cougar Clinic for area girls in grades first through eighth.

The clinic will be held at SIUE's Vadalabene Center for the fourth consecutive year:
1:30-3 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 29

The cost of the clinic is $25, and each participant will receive a T-shirt and a basketball. All participating kids also will receive a free pass to all SIUE Cougar Athletics events.

Chancellor Randy Pembrook Welcomes Jesse Dixon to Segue, Oct. 30

Community enhancement is the focus of this week’s episode of Segue on WSIE-FM 88.7 at 9 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, as SIUE Chancellor Dr. Randy Pembrook welcomes Jesse Dixon, executive director of the SIUE East St. Louis Center.

The administrators discuss a variety of topics, including program offerings through the East St. Louis Center, campus and community collaboration, involvement options for donors and volunteers, future initiatives for the East St. Louis Center and its surrounding communities, and how the East St. Louis Center is addressing critical community needs.

Club Sports Raise Money for Breast Cancer During the Month of October

Campus Recreation’s Club Sports program will once again raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer research. The disease severely impacts students and their families.

Thanks to Women’s Club Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Club Volleyball, Club Ice Hockey and Club Football for their efforts in raising money to donate to a breast cancer research center. The Sports Club Executive Council will vote at their next meeting to determine to which charity the funds will be donated.

Special pink T-shirts will be sold during these Club Sports home events throughout the month of October:

  • 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29 -- Club Ice Hockey – Pink in the Rink game at the East Alton Ice Arena
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 -- Club Football vs. Michigan State at Club Sports Field

Three professors in the Department of English Language and Literature, Jill Anderson, Allison Funk and Valerie Vogrin, will present on the theme of Process as it pertains to their Spring 2016 sabbaticals (and beyond).

A New Payroll Deduction Option for Student Fitness Center Memberships

The month of November is open enrollment for the new Student Fitness Center Payroll Deduction option for a one-year membership (January to December).

The payroll deduction option will allow SIUE employees to pay for their Student Fitness Center membership by automatically having four equal payments of just $60 withdrawn from their pay in the months of January and February. There is also a monthly payment option using a checking account.

Also for a limited time, all new memberships get a free full-size locker rental for one year, which is a $60 value.

SIUE’s Center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Research, Education and Outreach invites the SIUE and extended communities to its Resource Center Open House:

The STEM Resource Center is an important resource for Southern Illinois, offering materials and written resources to educators and families in the area, free of charge.

“Science and math topics are greatly improved with tools and demonstrations that can be prohibitively expensive or technical for everyone to have access,” Resource Center Manager Colin Wilson said. “Through grants, donations and outreach programming, we are able to make exemplary education available to everyone.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with resource center items and watch exciting demonstrations. They can peruse new materials on display and participate in raffle drawings.

Single-Game Tickets for 2016-17 SIUE Basketball Season are on Sale Now

Cougar fans now have the opportunity to secure their seats for SIUE men's basketball under second-year Head Coach Jon Harris and SIUE women's basketball under fifth-year Head Coach Paula Buscher.

Featured on this season's slate of games for SIUE is a Nov. 18 matchup with the Salukis of SIU Carbondale. Last season, SIUE defeated SIU Carbondale on the road 76-74. This year's matchup features game tickets as low as $5 online at siuecougars.com with the promo code BOO16 good through Monday, Oct. 31.

The men's schedule includes 13 games beginning with an exhibition game against McKendree on Saturday, Nov. 5. The Cougars have nonconference home contests against IUPUI (Nov. 26), Stetson (Dec. 7), Missouri Western (Dec. 10) and Missouri S&T (Dec. 28).

The OVC season begins Saturday, Dec. 31 for the men's team against Tennessee Tech. SIUE also has home contests against Austin Peay (Jan. 12), Murray State (Jan. 14), Tennessee State (Jan. 25), Jacksonville State (Feb. 4), Southeast Missouri (Feb. 9), UT Martin (Feb. 11) and Eastern Illinois (Feb. 25).

The SIUE women's basketball team begins its home season on Sunday, Nov. 6 with an exhibition contest against Lindenwood.

The nonconference schedule features four games beginning with SIU Carbondale on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The Cougars also face Western Illinois (Nov. 27), UMSL (Dec. 11) and Illinois State (Dec. 23).

SIUE's OVC season also kicks off Dec. 31 against Tennessee Tech. The rest of the home OVC schedule is Murray State (Jan. 15), Southeast Missouri (Jan. 18), Tennessee State (Jan. 25), Jacksonville State (Feb. 4), UT Martin (Feb. 11), Austin Peay (Feb. 15) and Eastern Illinois (Feb. 25).
