Nominate a Co-Worker for the Employee Recognition Program

Do you work alongside someone who has a strong commitment toward achieving excellence in their work? Why not nominate them for the Employee Recognition Program award?

The program is designed to recognize civil service and professional staff employees for their exceptional accomplishments and service to our community. Further information about Employee of the Month rewards, nomination criteria and the nomination form can be obtained here.

Nominations are due in the Office of Human Resources by close of business Monday, Aug. 15 to be eligible for the September Award. Awards are presented once a month.

"VILLAGE" Class - Dream Pillow
For ages birth to 1 1/2 years

This title alone brings images of rocking, cuddling, singing and lulling to sleep. But leading up to sleepy time are many upbeat and playful activities. Babies and adults will swirl to a dreamy cloud dance “Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland.” They’ll also play baby appropriate instruments to “Aiken Drum,” and “Sarasponda.” Favorite nursery rhymes like “Wee Willie Winkie" and “Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling” are sprinkled throughout the classes. It’s easy to weave many of the class songs and activities into your families’ daily routines.

"OUR TIME" Class - Milk & Cookies
For ages 1 1/2 to 3 years

Make everyday home activities and chores easier and more fun with music! Cook and sing to “The Muffin Man;" dust and clean to the original song “In My House;" get ready to wash clothes to the delightful poem “Washing Machine." Baking cookies, eating cupcakes, blowing on hot cross buns, wiggling like jelly, going grocery shopping and making tea are all represented in familiar as well as new songs. Move, play and sing together in developmentally appropriate activities created just for 1-½ through 3-year-olds. Capture the familiar and new moments of the day and learn how music can impact your toddler.

"Sing & Play" 4-Week Class - Yum!
For ages 1 and 2 years

Get ready to sing, play and move with your little one in this high-energy music class designed to be just right for children under two years of age. This new Kindermusik curriculum focuses on your child's beginning movement, helping to build the muscles your baby needs to walk and helping to nurture your child’s speaking and singing voice. With a mix of both parent-child joint activities and child-focused activities, you’ll be able to join right in on all the singing and dancing, while also getting the chance to observe how your older baby or toddler learns on her own.

2016 Metro East Start-Up Challenge Offers $20,000 in Prizes

Entrepreneurs and new business startups are invited to compete in the 2016 Metro East Start-Up Challenge (MESC), Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s third annual regional business plan competition.

The Challenge is organized by the Illinois Metro East Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The purpose of the Challenge is to identify, encourage and support entrepreneurs and business startups across the SBDC’s nine-county service area. The 2016 Challenge invites entrepreneurs and startup businesses from four target industries: information technology, manufacturing and health care. 

The first-place winner will receive a $10,000 cash prize. Two runners-up will receive $5,000 each. Prizewinners will also receive an array of in-kind professional services. 

For more information on the 2016 Challenge or to initiate the application process, go to siue.edu/metroeaststartup. The entry deadline is Friday, Sept. 9. Semi-finalists will be announced Friday, Sept. 16, with finalists notified on Friday, Oct. 21.

The Challenge will announce its cash prizewinners on Friday, Nov. 4.
