Scenes from a Cougar Spirit Halloween on Main St.

More than a dozen “floats” along with a of couple hundred Cougars delighted families and fans during the annual Edwardsville/Glen Carbon Chamber of Commerce Halloween Parade on Oct. 31 on Main St. in Downtown Edwardsville.
From engineers to athletes to musicians, student government and staff, SIUE joined Eddie and his fan club to celebrate community and scary, whimsical fun.
Facilities management stole the show with a life-size washroom on wheels. All crafts–-carpenters, electricians, plumbers, painters, laborers, grounds, op engineers and building service workers participated in the building of the float.
Nearly 40 members of SIUE’s track and field received a winning reception among the crowd.
Zach Lane, a sophomore majoring in Economics and Finance and a sprinter on the SIUE Men’s Track and Field team, shared thoughts from his second year volunteering for the parade: “It’s always nice to participate in the community. Throughout the parade, we throw candy and small, fun items to the kids and families watching. The crowd seemed happy to see us, and some people were yelling SIUE as we went by.”
Lane added, “Everyone participating was having a good time, and it was fun seeing the kids enjoying themselves and all their costumes. I think when we show up for the community, it encourages people to come out to our meets and support us as well. That support means a lot to our team, and everyone loves to be part of a positive, inclusive community.”
