Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s WSIE 88.7 The Sound received high praise as one of seven official media partners at the Music at the Intersection festival held on Sept. 10-11.
Music at the Intersection (MATI) is a two-day event produced by the Kranzberg Arts Foundation, with support from the Steward Family Foundation and the Regional Arts Commission, among other notable St. Louis and regional organizations. The event featured national acts such as Erykah Badu, Gary Clark Jr., Robert Glasper, Booker T. Jones, John Scofield, Hiatus Kaiyote and Kamasi Washington.
This was the second annual presentation of MATI and the first outdoor presentation of the event. About 4,000 music lovers entered the gates each day.
Of the seven media partners involved in promotion of MATI, WSIE and St. Louis Public Radio (KWMU) were the only two with a major presence on-site. WSIE had a booth on-site where representatives met fans of the station and made new fans of the station. WSIE conducted a “live” broadcast from the festival grounds, including several interviews with performers.
“WSIE did the SIUE community proud this weekend,” said Ben Lowder, director of SIUE’s Center for Spirituality and Sustainability. “WSIE was the most present and engaged media outlet at MATI.”
“We had a really great time and learned a lot,” mass communication major Jenna Williams, a WSIE student volunteer who helped run the WSIE booth. “Being there gave me the opportunity to hone my broadcast skills.”
WSIE looks forward to being an integral part of next year’s presentation of Music at the Intersection. For more information on upcoming performances and festivals, visit WSIE.com of find the station on Facebook at facebook.com/wsie887thesound.
