TO FIND BOOKS: THE ONLINE CATALOG
The UFind online catalog is used to locate books about a particular person or subject. Some general subject headings for communications are:
Communication |
Mass Media |
Intercultural Communication |
Oral Communication |
Public Relations |
Nonverbal Communication |
Subheadings often describe a book's content in more detail. Examples include:
Communication--Psychological aspects |
Communication--Social aspects |
It is generally best to check all subdivisions under a heading so that useful materials are not overlooked.
To find other headings, you can search in the
I-Share catalog using the
browse subject command option. To locate books beyond those in the statewide
I-Share catalog, search
WorldCat. This online catalog provides citations to books and other materials in nearly 72,000 libraries in 171 countries.

The Electronic Journals (SFX) search option on the online catalog should be checked to ensure that Lovejoy Library has the particular journal needed. If the library does not have the journal you need, articles from the journal can be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
Communication journals from 1990 through current issues are shelved on the second floor on the north side of the building. Most pre-1990 issues are kept in storage and can be requested from the Circulation Desk for delivery usually within 24 hours. All are
shelved alphabetically by title.
OTHER IMPORTANT REFERENCE SOURCES
There are a number of useful sources in the Reference Collection on the first floor. Check materials in the P 87 - P 99.5 call number range. Most communication books are shelved on the third floor in the P call number range. Business communication materials may be found on the second floor in the HD or HF call number ranges.
