TO FIND BOOKS: THE ONLINE CATALOG
I-Share (the Library Online Catalog) is used to find books about a particular person or subject. Some general subject headings for art education and art therapy are:
Art |
Art Therapy |
Communication in Art |
Occupational Therapy |
Art Therapists |
Psychotherapy |
Many headings have subheadings that describe a book's contents in more detail. Some examples of these are:
Art-Psychology |
Art--Study and Teaching |
It is a good idea to check all subdivisions under a subject heading to be certain you do not overlook material that might be useful.
To find other headings, you can search in the I-Share catalog using the browse subject command options. Of course, you can still look in the Library of Congress Subject Heading List (on a stand across from the Reference Desk). If a heading is listed there in bold type or with a "sa" (see also) abbreviation preceding it, you may find it in the subject catalog.
To locate books beyond those in the I-Share catalog, search
WorldCat. This online catalog provides citations to books and other materials in nearly 40,000 libraries in 76 countries.
Books having L and N call numbers are located on the first floor of the Library near the entrance. Books with R call numbers are on the third floor, and oversized books (folios) are located on the second floor behind the microforms area.

The
Electronic Journals (SFX)
search option on the online catalog should be checked to ensure that Lovejoy Library has the particular journal issue needed. If the library doesn't have the journal you need, articles from the journal can be requested through
Interlibrary Loan.
Most art education and art therapy periodicals from 1980 through current issues are shelved on the second floor near the microforms and photocopying areas. Most pre-1980 issues are kept in storage and can be requested from the Circulation Desk for delivery usually within 24 hours. All are shelved alphabetically by title.
OTHER IMPORTANT REFERENCE SOURCES
There are a number of useful resources in the Reference Collection. Check materials in the L, N, and RC call number ranges. The Library offers the
Dictionary of Art, 34 vols., New York: Grove's Dictionaries, 1996 (Ref. N 31 .D5 1996). The Rhoda Kellogg Child Art Collection, in the microforms area, is also an important resource for art educators. The
NLM Gateway is a useful website for art therapists.
