International Education Week

What's International Education Week?

International Education Week (IEW) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of State to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. International Education Week will take place November 13 - 17.

The Office of International Affairs, alongside close collaboration with other key university partners, is proud to host this year's International Education Week as an opportunity to continue our mission of enriching our campus through international collaboration and providing all Cougars with the opportunity to expand their global perspective.

Interested in Getting Involved?

The members of the IEW committee are looking for participants and volunteers for the events we have planned. Participation and volunteer opportunities are open to all students on campus!

Monday, November 13

• Global Zone

    International student ally training offered each semester for SIUE faculty and staff. Visit the Global Zone website for more information and registration.
• SIUE Flag Ceremony
  • Goshen Lounge - 1:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    The official opening ceremony for SIUE’s International Education Week.

Tuesday, November 14

• Talk Around the World
  • Goshen Lounge - 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
    An interactive event that celebrates international languages through fun games, interactions, and cultural displays of world languages.

Wednesday, November 15

•  It Takes A Village (Speaker Series)
  • International Room, MUC - 10:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
    
    Learn about our new international student population, how their academic experiences may differ from U.S. students', challenges they might face when integrating into the campus and local communities, and ways local residents can help foster an inclusive environment for this student population to thrive. Registration is required.
• Study Abroad Showcase
  
  • Goshen Lounge - 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.
    Drop by to meet students and faculty who have studied abroad. Hear their stories and learn about the cultures they experienced. Have a chance to explore the world through their memories.
• Study Abroad Faculty-Led Workshop
  • Student Success Center Room 1201 - 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
    Explore the ins and outs of leading travel study programs at SIUE. The world is open again and we are looking to increase opportunities for faculty and students to study internationally. This session is open to all faculty at SIUE regardless of your level of experience with study abroad programs. Registration is required and there will be 20 spots available.

    An event to celebrate where our students call home through interactive activities, keepsakes, and information.

Friday, November 17

•   International Student Thanksgiving Social

    Join us as we celebrate the American holiday of Thanksgiving with pie, games, crafts, and a time to gather with friends.
