Next Steps - Overview
Complete these task before you arrive at SIUE:
- Set up your e-ID. After you get your e-ID, you should also sign up for the SIUE e-Lert system to receive SIUE notifications about university closures due to inclement weather and other important alerts. Click here for instructions.
- Apply for housing. Visit the International Housing Page for more information. Consider ideal arrival dates and University Housing move-in dates carefully when making travel plans to the U.S. You can download the housing application instructions here.
- Book your flight. Our office (ISSS) provides airport pickup service from Lambert-St. Louis International Airport (STL) in St Louis, Missouri on the ideal arrival dates. Check back later for the Airport Pick Form. Make sure to submit your complete itinerary information when completing the form.
- Accept the Bursar financial agreement on CougarNet and register for classes by following these instructions. International students are not required to make payment for fees until after they arrive on campus. Email SIUE Bursar at: bursar@siue.edu if you have any questions about tuition and fees.
- Meet with your Academic Advisor or Graduate Program Director to Enroll in Classes only if you received a visa. Academic Advising is mandatory and you cannot enroll in courses until your academic advisor lifts the hold on your account. Check course load requirements here.
Graduate Students: Contact your academic department for instructions on how to enroll.
Undergraduate Students: Contact academic advising by sending an email to advising@siue.edu or call (618) 650-3701 to schedule a virtual appointment. Visit our website to review the minimum enrollment requirements. Undergraduate students admitted to a degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) major, must register and take the Math Placement Test before they can register for classes. Visit the SIUE Test Services Website for more information - Students listed below will meet with their assigned advisor as follows:
- Honors students: Ian Toberman in the Honors Program will enroll students in advance.
- IEP students: Contact Asha Mattan at amattan@siue.edu
- J-1 Exchange students: Contact your advisor in the Office of International Admissions at intladm@siue.edu for questions about your enrollment.
- Sponsored J-1 Exchange students (FLTA, Global UGRAD, UGRAD Pakistan, CHEPD): Contact your advisor in the Office of International Affairs at isss@siue.edu
- Transfer students: Contact Academic Advising staff or an advisor in the school where you will be completing your degree (e.g., engineering, business, etc.) NOTE: Your transcript must be evaluated before you are advised. If you are not sure whether your U.S. transcript has been evaluated, please contact the Transfer Center at transfercredit@siue.edu or (618) 650-2133. Be sure to provide your #800 number.
- Complete the online module for your visa type by logging into Blackboard. Instructions on how to login into Blackboard are available here.
- Submit your immunization records to SIUE Health Service. Immunizations are due on the first day of class, so we encourage you to email your immunization information to: cougarcare@siue.edu. A $25 fine and a hold will be placed on your account if documents are not submitted as required. Insurance waivers are due by the 10 days of each semester. If you don't have immunization records and will need to get immunizations at SIUE, please call 618-650-2842 or log into CougarCare to make an appointment ahead of time
- List of suggested items to bring: We suggest that you review the list of recommended items to bring with you even if you don't plan to live on campus.
