Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education before start date
• Must be a graduate student in good academic standing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
• All candidates must be accepted into their program of study
• Enroll in at least nine (9) credit hours per semester in graduate-level coursework
• Maintain a GPA of 3.0 throughout all employed semesters
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent computer skills (e.g. MS Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
• Ability to work with diverse populations of faculty, staff, students and community members
• Maintain an appropriate degree of confidentiality in accordance with FERPA and the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended (ADAAA). Preferred Qualifications
• Interest in/knowledge of student development theory and student retention
• Ability to utilize concepts of student development in program planning, academic coaching, advising, and administrative duties or ability to learn concepts quickly
• Proven organizational skills and strong interpersonal skills
• Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
The ACCESS Graduate Assistant position will provide general assistance to the students and staff of the Accessible Campus Community & Equitable Student Support (ACCESS) office. The position will be supervised by the Assistant Director for Inclusive Compliance and regularly be assigned projects requiring research to complete and will be tasked with conducting surveys related to the mission of the office. The position will also assist with:
• Annual Ed Roberts Champions of Accessibility Celebration (i.e. planning, securing of keynote speaker, advertisement and awardee selection)
• Outreach and community events such as ACCESS Visit Day
• Planning of semesterly events, (Fall & Spring) Gateway Graduation Ceremony
• Disability awareness programming in coordination with the office
• Intake and team consultation regarding accommodations for students with disabilities.
• Additional duties may also include staffing the front desk, proctoring exams (occasional evening shift), answering phones and taking messages, scheduling appointments, and providing basic and accurate information to inquiring students, faculty, and families.
