Prior experience with ecological research, including field and experimental Studies. Preference will be given to students with experience working with amphibians. An ability to work in strenuous outdoor conditions, including exposure to biting insects and high heat, is also needed. Individuals must also be able to work independently and as part of a team. Use of a personal vehicle is required for this position.
The student will work on a grant-funded project examining the impact of road salt on salamanders. The primary responsibility will be to assist with ongoing experiments with salamanders exposed to different salt treatments, with specific tasks including catching metamorphosing salamanders, measuring/weighing salamanders, cleaning experimental tanks, and data entry. There may also be opportunities to assist with sampling natural salamander populations on the SIUE campus during the same period. The position will have a flexible schedule but will include night and weekend work.
