Introduction to Digital Accessibility

Description: This session provides a practical, hands-on introduction to creating and remediating accessible PDFs using Adobe Acrobat. Participants will learn the essential dos and don’ts of PDF accessibility, with a focus on ensuring documents meet WCAG 2.1 AA standards and are fully usable with screen readers. Topics include identifying common accessibility barriers, applying proper document structure and tagging, using Acrobat’s accessibility tools, and avoiding workflows that unintentionally reduce accessibility (such as flattening text or relying on OCR unnecessarily). Attendees will leave with clear strategies and efficient workflows to produce compliant, user-friendly PDFs.

Then, our facilitator will share about how Competency-Based Education is being implemented in the School of Nursing, leaving time for Q&A and group discussion.

Vibe Check: Building Interactive Course Materials Without Code

Description: What if you could build the interactive course materials you've always imagined, without writing a single line of code yourself? "Vibe coding" is a new approach to creating digital tools: you describe what you want in plain language, and an AI assistant builds it for you. In this hands-on workshop, faculty will explore how conversational AI tools can turn teaching ideas into working, shareable resources in minutes rather than months. We'll start by helping your syllabus come alive, transforming a static document into an interactive guide students will actually use. From there, we'll build engaging classroom activities such as self-check quizzes, sorting games, and scenario simulations. We'll also design custom click-and-learn modules that let students explore complex concepts at their own pace. Along the way, we'll discuss practical considerations including accessibility, student privacy, and knowing when a quick prototype is good enough. No programming experience is required. Bring a laptop and one teaching challenge, concept, or course document you'd like to reimagine. You'll leave with at least one working prototype, reusable prompting strategies, and a clearer sense of how AI can expand what's possible in your course design. Click here to register

Description: This session focuses on designing accessible PowerPoint presentations that support all learners, including those using screen readers or assistive technologies. Participants will explore best practices for slide structure, reading order, and meaningful use of layouts, as well as how to create accessible visuals, use alt text effectively, and ensure sufficient color contrast. The session will also cover common pitfalls—such as overloaded slides or improperly formatted content—and demonstrate how to use PowerPoint’s built-in accessibility checker.
