Thesis Award. As is clear from the nomination letter, the two support letters, and the acceptance of her
thesis work in premium journal in this discipline, I have no doubt that Roya deserve this recognition. In
the following, I would like to address the three aspects as specified in the nomination procedure given in
the Graduate School website.
Where the work described in the thesis fits into the discipline? Roya’s thesis is interdisciplinary in
nature, and it addresses a very interesting application of engineering that is of great value. This is very
appropriate as a topic of thesis in Mechanical Engineering.
letters, Roya’s thesis work developed a model for the biochemical process that allowed her to conduct
detailed analysis of various parameters on the biochemical sensors for the first time. I was a member of
her committee, and was very impressed with the originality and the thoroughness of her work that is
indeed rare in a master level work.
discipline. Roya’s writing style conforms well with the usual convention in engineering. Her thesis was
well-organized, and the language is appropriate for scientific writing.
The criteria the department uses to evaluate theses internally. The department does not have
articulated criteria to use in evaluating theses. The understood criteria are:
