Job Description
The SIUE East St. Louis Learning Resource Center (LRC) is seeking candidates to fill a full-time, Library Instructor position. The LRC is a full-service public library focusing on youth and adult community outreach. Library services and programs are open to all students, faculty, staff, groups, and programs affiliated with the Wyvetter H. Younge Higher Education Campus, as well as the East St. Louis community. The LRC also serves as the on-campus school library space for the Discovery Head Start students and the SIUE Charter High School scholars. The LRC team supports its diverse range of students and patrons and encourages them to succeed and learn new skills provided by the LRC community collection and programs, while maintaining the overall mission, vision, and values of SIUE.
The Library Instructor works directly with the Library Director to manage the daily functions of the library. Duties will include:
- Provide original and copy cataloging for new library items;
- Provide collection development through acquisition of new library items and weeding the current collection;
- Manage the collection development budget;
- Supervise and train Library Operations Associate and/or student worker;
- Provide Reader's Advisory, reference services, and computer assistance to patrons;
- Conduct instructional sessions with patrons;
- Assist patrons with all library circulation functions in Polaris ILS;
- Create promotional materials for LRC programs and services and manage the LRC website using Cascade;
- Create book displays to promote the LRC collection;
- Manage ebook and audiobook services (SHARE Cloud library) and be liaison for Illinois Heartland Library System;
- Collect and report library usage statistics;
- Assist and collaborate with LRC Director, programming, and other campus organizations.
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the library, East St. Louis Center, and University.
Minimum Qualifications
-MLIS, MS/LIS, or equivalent from ALA accredited institution;*
-Three (3) or more years library experience.
*Candidates with a Bachelor's degree in a related field and four (4) or more years' relevant library experience may also be considered.
