How to Apply/Audition

Start your application to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville through the University Admissions portal. An audition is required for admission into our Dance, Musical Theatre, and Performance (Acting) specializations. An audition is not required for Design/Technology or Theatre Education, but we strongly encourage you to schedule an interview for scholarship consideration. Dance Program Auditions for Fall 2026

Complete your audition in one of the following ways:

  1. On-Campus Audition Days - you’ll take a class with our faculty and perform a short solo in any style.
    • Saturday, November 8, 2025
    • Sunday, February 22, 2026
  1. Weekday Visit (M–Th) - Can’t make the audition days? Arrange a weekday visit. You’ll take a selected class and perform a solo for faculty.
  1. Video Submission -  Submit two solos in contrasting styles (each short and unedited). Include your name and intended start term.

Theater Performance Auditions for Fall 2026

Complete your audition in one of the following ways:

  • On-Campus Audition Days - During the audition, students will meet with Theater faculty and perform two contrasting monologues, each approximately 1 minute in length.
    • Saturday, November 8, 2025
    • Sunday, February 22, 2026
  1. Weekday Visit Option (Monday–Thursday) - If you’re unable to attend an audition day, you may schedule a weekday visit. Students will tour facilities, meet with faculty, and perform their monologues in person.
  2. Video Submission Option - Applicants may also audition by submitting two contrasting monologues via video. Recordings should be clear and unedited, with the performer’s name and intended start term included.

Musical Theatre Auditions for Fall 2026

Complete your audition in one of the following ways:

  1. On-Campus Audition Days
    • Saturday, November 8, 2025
    • Sunday, February 22, 2026
      What to prepare (in person):
      • 1-minute monologue
      • 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song (bring an accompaniment track; a speaker will be available)
      • Dance component: You’ll take a short dance class (60 minutes) with faculty. 
      • A brief interview with faculty will follow your audition.
  2. Weekday Visit Option (Monday–Thursday)
    • If you can’t attend an audition day, schedule a weekday visit. You’ll meet with faculty and present:
    • 1-minute monologue
    • 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song (accompaniment track)
    • Dance component: Participate in a dance class or bring a 30-second dance clip of yourself in a previous production.
  3. Video Submission Option (Virtual Audition)
    • Submit the following:
      • 1-minute monologue
      • 32-bar cut of a musical theatre song (you may sing with a track)
      • 30-second dance clip (previous performance footage is fine) After review, faculty may invite you to a brief virtual interview (not required for acceptance).

Theatre Education and Design/Technology for Fall 2026

Weekday Visit Option (Monday–Friday) - If you can’t attend a Preview SIUE day, schedule a weekday visit to tour facilities and meet with faculty and students.
