Cougar Village 400 side Community Director

Hello Cougar Village! My name is Sam Early, and I am the Community Director for the 400 side of Cougar Village.

I'm from the great states of Tennessee and Texas! I really miss the warm weather and perfect sweet tea (McAlister's is my current go-to spot). I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work degree from The University of Memphis and my Master of Social Work from Washington University In St. Louis.

Outside of work, I am a college football fan (RIP to this season) and enjoy taking it easy watching TV on my couch. I hate to admit it, but naps are still one of my favorite weekend activities. I typically pick up a hobby that lasts for a month of two max then I am on to the next. During the last 6 months, I started reading for fun again, embroidery, painting, and walking around Cougar Village.

This is my second year over in Cougar Village and I have loved every second of it. You can find me at the events and socials within the Cougar Village Community. For those I have not met yet, I hope to meet you soon; and from those I have, I can't wait to catch up!

As we navigate this year, please remember that it is up to us to take care of ourselves and our Cougar Village Community. Remember to wear you face coverings, maintain social distancing, and wash your hands. We are all in this together! For more information about how to keep campus safe, please visit the link and sign the pledge.

Have a great first week and semester CV400!

Cougar Village 500 side Community Director

Hello Cougar Village! My name is Bethany Plants and I am the Community Director for the 500 side of Cougar Village.

A little about me - I grew up south of St. Louis before moving to Warrensburg, MO for college! I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Central Missouri (UCM). At UCM, I was involved with Hall Council, National Residence Hall Honorary, and Public Relations Student Society of America. I was a Resident Assistant for two years and an Apartment Community Advisor for one year.

After graduation, I attended Arkansas Tech University where I worked as a Resident Director and earned my M.S. in College Student Personnel.

I started working in University Housing at SIUE in January of this year and I love it! The students are great, the campus is beautiful and I love being back in close proximity to St. Louis!

Outside of work, I spend a lot of time with family and friends (or at least I did pre-pandemic). My hobbies include reading, shopping, cooking, and baking. I also love podcasts!

I am so happy to welcome Cougar Village residents back to campus! I am looking forward to getting to know you this year.  My hope for our community is that we will be respectful, caring, and collaborative. It is up to all of us to keep our community safe and healthy. My expectation is that you will all be thoughtful about your actions and ask questions if you need help navigating new policies.

How do I program my TV to view the new channel lineup?

Most  TVs have a "Channel Search" or "Auto Program" function that will automatically scan the incoming signals and detect the available ones. It may be necessary to do a channel search before your TV will allow you to tune to a specific channel.

1. Go into the TV Menu and select “Set Up”

2. Look for and select an option similar to “Channel Search” or “Auto Program”

3. The TV will automatically begin searching to identify all available channels

4. After this auto search is completed, there should be approximately 60-70 channels available for viewing (if the TV has an internal QAM tuner). If no channels are available, it is likely the TV does not have a QAM tuner.

NOTE: If you previously watched a program on channel 4, the new channel may have moved to a new number, such as 4.2 or 4-2. Please speak to your property manager about new channel lineup cards.

NOTE: Most HD TVs can modify aspect ratios. If your picture seems stretched or has black bars around the picture after the scan, please modify the aspect ratio to fit with your desired viewing experience.

Health and Safety Tips

Sign up for e-Lert today!

What is e-Lert?

SIUE's e-Lert is a text messaging service that will be used to quickly notify faculty, staff, and student cell phones when an urgent situation, such as a bomb threat, severe weather, hostile intruder, or when the University closes due to inclement weather. There is no cost to register for the alerts; however, standard rates may apply if your cell phone plan does not include text messaging.

How do I register for SIUE e-Lert?

If you are a student, faculty, or staff member, you can register by clicking the "Sign Up Now" link and entering your active e-id, password, and cell phone number. Each time you are notified to change your e-id password, you will also be given an opportunity to enroll, update your cell phone number if it has changed, or cancel your registration with the system.

You will still receive alerts as long as you have the same cell phone number.

Rave Guardian

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) now offers the Rave Guardian app for its students and their families. Rave Guardian is one of the best ways to not only improve personal safety but also protect your friends by building a private safety network. This app provides instant communication with friends, family, campus safety, and even 9-1-1.

SIUE encourages all students throughout campus to utilize the app to network with friends and help increase the overall safety and security of the entire student body. An important part of the Guardian app is that students can use it not only to keep themselves safe but to help protect others. Even students who may not feel as if they need others to help keep them safe can utilize the app to be a guardian and help protect their friends.

Download Rave Guardian and Become a Guardian on Campus

Download Rave Guardian for Free The app is available for free on the Apple or Google app store.

Use Rave Guardian to Protect Yourself and Others

Set a Safety Time – Notify people you trust to check in on you if you are alone or in an unfamiliar place.

Manage and Message Your Guardians – Invite family, friends or others to be your Guardian, and communicate with them within the app as needed.
