The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Club Sports program is a group of student organizations that provide programs for instruction, recreation or competition in a specific sport or activity. The Club Sports program is housed in the Department of Campus Recreation at SIUE to provide students greater access to the resources at the University.
The Club Sports program contributes to the overall learning process of organization, administration, leadership and professional development for each student involved. To reinforce this learning opportunity, Campus Recreation takes on an advisory role to provide consultation in the continuing development of the student and the club. SIUE affiliated clubs often travel the nation to compete against various schools, clubs and associations of the same sport or interest. Club members must keep in mind that they are affiliated with SIUE, so proper representation at all times is essential to their continued existence and support.
The Club Sports program is open to all SIUE students, faculty, staff, SFC members, and alumni. All individuals are encouraged to join and/or form a club of their own. For more information on how to join any of the clubs or possibly start your own club, please contact Keith Becherer in the Club Sports office at (618) 650-3242 or kebeche@siue.edu.
The Cougar Creed - As a member of the SIUE community, I pledge to uphold honorable and high standards. I commit to participating in a friendly and open academic community. While practicing personal and academic integrity, I will respect the dignity of all people and the rights and property of others. I will demonstrate concern for others and their need for conditions and support their work and development. I will strive to achieve academic and personal success and make a positive impact on my campus and community. From this day forward, I will refrain from and discourage behaviors which threaten freedom and respect that every individual deserves.
Do you have a ___________ club?
All clubs that are sponsored by the Department of Campus Recreation are listed on the Club Sports Listing page. If you do not see the club that you are looking for, then we do not currently sponsor it. For information on how to start a club, contact our Club Sports Office at (618)650-3242.
How do I join a club?
Each individual club is responsible for determining its own membership requirements and policies. For information on joining a club, contact the club's contact person, as listed on the Club Sports Listing page.
How do I get scholarship and/or recruitment information?
These clubs are not varsity sports and most do not have scholarships available. The clubs are funded through membership dues, fundraisers, etc. Many clubs compete competitively (Men's Hockey Club and Mens Volleyball Club are examples) and others meet solely for recreation. Some of the competitive clubs do recruit and have try-outs. To find out specific information on recruiting and try-outs, you need to contact the club's contact person.
