Laura Swanson, Ph.D.
Biological Sketch
Prior to joining the SIUE faculty, Dr. Swanson was an instructor at Purdue University, where she received an award as an outstanding teacher. She also received a Krannert fellowship to support her dissertation, entitled "Managing Maintenance for Equipment Performance".
Dr. Swanson has hands-on experience in manufacturing management. Prior to attending graduate school she spent six years working as an industrial engineer for the Aluminum Company of America. As an industrial engineer, her projects included: evaluating risks and benefits of a major change in scheduling for maintenance coverage, coordinating preparation of an eight year strategic maintenance plan and preparing capital equipment justification packages.
Professor Swanson is a member of the American Production and Inventory Control Society, the Production and Operations Management Society, the Decisions Sciences Institute and the
Academy of Management. She has presented research at the annual meetings of the Academy of
Management, the Decision Sciences Institute and the Production and Operations Management
Society. Dr. Swanson has published in the Production and Inventory Management Journal, the
International Journal of Production Research and the International Journal of Production
Economics. Her current research interests include manufacturing strategy, technology strategy and
quality management.
