Concert: Potions and Tit for Tat at Cafe Ventana
Best Witches, BBAATBIFFFS, Potions, con trails, and Tit for Tat played a concert at Café Ventana last Tuesday. Best Witches, the Chicago-based experimental rock band, and BBAATBIFFFS, the Chicago-based noise metal band, headlined the show, while Potions, con trails, and Tit for Tat opened up.

I got a chance to sit down with Cory Rupert of Tit for Tat and Britt Lockhart of Potions after their sets to talk about their music.
Tit for Tat was the first band to play. I was confused at first, thinking the three-piece was an obscure-song-only Violent Femmes cover band. Sadly, they weren’t after hearing the rest of the set. Actually, after the first song, the band launched into more rock and roll style songs.
Once the band finished, I got a chance to ask Rupert, the lead singer, what the band’s influences were on their music. He explained, “We’re mostly influenced by local bands, you know? Because of their originality. It almost seems like they aren’t as affected by rehashed or mainstream music and almost seem more pure in a way. Aside from local music though, I have been listening to the new Tycho CD a lot.” Unfortunately, Rupert had to quickly remove his equipment from the stage and leave the venue, so I didn’t get to ask any more questions.
Toward the end of the night, Potions played. While they normally have three members, only one played at this show – Britt Lockhart. So when I asked where the other two members were. He said, “They’re actually off recording our new album. At least I think.” Lockhart then said their album will be released, hopefully, by June or July.
