My Interest

Musicals, Music and Culture

I have many interests. One being the love of Theater; especially Musicals, I like music of many genres, I am interested in getting into voiceover acting and interested in learning about different cultures and traditions.

I am a Theater and Performance minor which helps me in the future to pursue performance, acting and directing. I am interested mainly in Musicals because they are the liveliest of the performance theater. I saw my first Broadway musical at the Fox Theater when I was 5 years old, and from that point I fell in love with musical theater. Musicals are interesting because the entertainment is live, although they are making movie musicals which is great. The environment for the musicals is great, especially here in St. Louis at the Muny which I work every year. Simply because I love musicals. The songs are beautiful, and the performances and costumes are breathtaking. What I think is interesting about the musicals is the lessons and the morals that come out in the musicals.

I love them all; but some of my favorite musicals would include Wicked, Hamilton and Hadestowne just to name a few. Wicked was the one that sold me on becoming a Theater and Performance minor in school, I decided then wow I would love to be on stage or directing a performance like this, and then when I saw Hamilton, I was sold on it because it gave me a different prospected on musicals that never really existed. The history that are involved in Broadway Musicals are a good way of learning and exploring. When they bring the social and political aspect into the show, they are great and not to overwhelming. Once you’ve seen a Broadway show, you will want to see more.

My other interest is music, I love different genres of music. I like Alternative music such as Indie-Rock and New Wave. I like Blues with songs like “The Thrill is Gone”, by BB King and “At Last” by Etta James. When it comes to Classical musical I like to listen to the melody and rhythm because it helps soothes and relax my mind. I listen to Hip-Hop which includes rap, I like the New Jack Swing, and the Old School Rap. With the Holidays coming up I love to listen to the Christmas music, my favorite is “Someday at Christmas” by Stevie Wonder. I am very much interested in all the Disney’s songs; I have not heard one that I don’t like. Favorite being “Tales as old as Time” by Celine Dion which is the song from Beauty and Beast. I am interested in Pop, R&B, Jazz and Inspirational (Gospel).

I am interested in taking voiceover lesson, and becoming a voiceover actress because I think it is a real work of art. I know that it would be interesting to pursue because I can help bring the film alive and add flair to the voice. They are in high demand both in the film industry and television.

I am interested in learning and discovering different cultures and traditions. I think that is interesting because knowing other cultures can help you understand the person and why they do the things that they do. It can help you to be more accepting and see their views. I think it is interesting because it opens my mind to learning traditions, how they got started and why it is important to a culture. One notable tradition that I am interested in looking at is the Day of the Dead, in Mexico which is called Dia de los Muertos.
