Additions & Improvements for Unit Check #2

Same Headings from Unit Check #1:

·        Need for Project

·        Description & Purpose of Unit

·        Goals and Outcomes

·        Activities and Timeline

·        Assessment

Additions: For this unit check, I would like you to add one additional heading after “Assessment” and that heading is “Evaluation”.

·        Evaluation – How will you determine whether your unit is successful? This is not the same as how you will assess students.  Evaluation might include you journaling your thoughts about the unit, you writing down any students’ comments made during the teaching of the unit, you noting any differences in student behavior between this unit and other units that you have taught in a more traditional manner.  You may even choose to interview a few of your students and ask them questions about the design or nature of the unit.

Improvements:  For this unit check, I would like you to add or improve to your unit/lesson plans by doing the following:

·        Create Lesson Two – Both of your NTeQ lessons should be completed by this point.  If you are struggling to get your lessons complete, then you need to speak with me individually about this.

·        Refining your Goals and Outcomes – This should be a bulleted list by now, rather than just general thoughts.  I expect to see learner objectives or outcomes in Unit Check #2.  By bulleted list, I mean something that looks similar to this (although different formatting is certainly allowed):

Students will gain knowledge about one Presidential candidate:

A.  Students will gather biographical information from the Internet.

B.  Students will gather information about a Presidential candidate’s platform on three key issues from the Internet.

·        Finalize your Assessment – All rubrics for assessment must be created.  The only exception to this is if you are having your students help you create the rubric.  In that instance, you will need to create a sample rubric showing me what you hope the students will create, based on your guidance.

·        Submit Supporting Materials – All supporting materials (think sheets, handouts, procedural analysis, etc.) need to be turned in with this unit check.  If you are struggling to get your supporting materials complete, then you need to speak with me individually about this.
