Hi, my name is Michael
Franczyk and I am a 24 year old currently enrolled
at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville
in the Master of Arts in Teaching program.I have a strong background in the sciences, getting my undergraduate B.S.
in Biology at Saint Louis University, and also doing a year of fisheries research as a graduate student at Southern
Illinois University-Carbondale. I have lived in the Saint Louis area for 5 years and hope to one day better the
community by teaching future scientists in middle and high school science classes. Science and math have been in
decline as time goes on, and I believe a major cause of that is decreasing interest in those subjects in schools.
As a science teacher, I plan on cutting back on the long, lecture-style classes and include more engaging, fun activities
that utilize core concepts, critical thinking, and real-world situations.
