about me
My name is Joshua Marshall and I am currently seeking my Master's degree
in Instructional Technology with an emphasis in Instructional Design and
Performance Improvement from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville.
My bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education with endorsements in
Social Science, Science, and Language Arts.
I am currently working as an intern for a soon to be opened charter
school, South City Preparatory Academy. My work for them has been
an excellent learning experience and I am humbled by their trust in me
to complete important projects for them, such as building their school
website, which can be viewed
here.
I am a veteran of the US Army and I served in Koera, Germany, and Iraq.
I am quite proud of my time in the service and I am still in contact
with several "Old Army buddies."
My hobbies are too few to list completely, but the main ones are
creating music and a love of books. I play guitar and also compose
classical music using my computer as a virtual orchestra. You can
listen to some of my work on my
Myspace page.
Regarding books, I tend towards non-fiction, mainly books on the
antiquities. Perhaps my favorite book in that field is Adrian
Goldsworthy's book on the conflict between ancient Rome and the
Carthaginians, The Punic Wars.
When I do read fiction, I will usually reach for science fiction for the
escapism, or, if I want to think deeply and challenge myself, I will
open a novel by the likes of Dostoyevsky or Solzhenistyn. Currently I am
reading Sun Tzu's Art of War, and Joseph Ellis' Founding
Brothers.
In the future, I
would like to work in the IT field, preferably creating corporate
training programs. On a personal level, I would like to one day
write a book and compose a symphony.
