Project 2
Fantasy Sports
After my Java class in the spring, I had a discussion with a friend about things we liked about playing fantasy sports and things we did not. We then decided that it was within our power to right the wrongs by building our own site.
The site is not yet finished, but we've been able to code an applet that looks decently pretty, and, more importantly, does the things we want from Fantasy.
These include:
- More flexible schedules - we can't devote the amount of time fantasy takes anymore so we wanted a way to automate the following things that normal websites make you do yourself.
- Lineups - it will automatically pick the players projected to score the most points. You can always override this if you wish to.
- Injuries - having to check last minute to see if your top player is injured is a drag, the applet will automatically switch in someone else if a started is flagged as injured/not playing.
- Several other minor imporvements
- Different scoring systems - the standard systems can be so confining.
- Shorter season lengths - longer seasons become a grind and many quickly lose interest.
- Different sports - we weren't able to do it this year, but we want to do fantasy sports for the olympics
I have recently started thinking about rewriting it using HTML and PHP. It seems much easier and I can make it look nicer without needing to do a ton of graphical design.
