Nina Harris
Started at SIUE: I started attending SIUE in the fall of 2017. I intended to earn a degree in Psychology, but I quickly realized I needed a break after a year and a half into my degree program. I took a much-needed break from school, then I came back better than ever in 2021 and graduated in December of 2023. I am now a proud SIUE alumni.
Education:
BS, Integrative Studies; concentration Public Health & Nutrition- SIUE
MSEd, Higher Education & Student Affairs (May 2026)- SIUE
Areas of Interest in degree: nutrition, food insecurity in college students, food literacy, holistic health
Favorite movie/book: Matilda (1996) | The Four Agreements, Don Miguel Ruiz
Favorite thing about SIUE: Get Involved! My favorite thing about SIUE is the community. During my undergraduate and part of grad school, I joined clubs, became friends with awesome people, and networked. I stayed engaged with various clubs and organizations (e.g., Cougar Connectors, Student Veterans of America (SVA), Black Girls Rock (BGR), Spill the Tea, and Student Government). I even modeled for the Cougar Store. The events hosted by the Kimmel Belonging and Engagement HUB (KHUB) also gave me great opportunities to meet people and participate in fun activities! However, when I need a social break, I take a stroll in the Gardens. Unsolicited advice: Join a club or organization, volunteer for Cougars in the Community, and enjoy what SIUE has to offer.
Why do you do what you do?: The reason I became a Success Coach is that I had wonderful experiences and a support system as a student. I was inspired by the faculty and staff who encouraged me on my academic journey. I wanted to provide the same support and encouragement to students. I appreciated all that I have been able to accomplish with the support of SIUE, and I pay it forward by assisting students in their success. I wanted to inspire students to be great. Open-door policy: Students feel free to stop by my office if the door is open to check out the cozy corner, which has fidget toys, coloring activities, and puzzles, or to answer the poll of the day!
Favorite quote: "I’m tired of this grandpa!" -Holes (2003)
What I do in my free time: In my free time, I love spending quality time with my family and friends and looking for the next adventure with my best friend! I also enjoy reading, building LEGO sets, biking, and baking delicious pastries.
