Graduation Deadlines, Fall 2019

This is a reminder of the remaining deadlines for all graduate students who applied for a Fall 2019 graduation. 

If you are delaying your graduation to a future term, please send an e-mail to graduation@siue.edu as soon as possible stating your new intended graduation term and disregard the rest of this e-mail.

Additional Deadlines for Thesis Students Only:

• MONDAY, December 2nd, 11:59PM: Initial thesis submission due to the Graduate School. Follow the instructions and link for uploading your thesis. There is a $95 processing fee for this ProQuest ETD (Electronic Thesis/Dissertation) site.
• MONDAY, January 6th, 11:59PM: After satisfying the December 2nd initial thesis submission deadline, students have until 11:59PM on Monday, January 6, 2020, to submit the absolute final thesis version incorporating any changes deemed necessary by the thesis committee and/or Graduate School thesis reviewers.

Important Dates for All Students:

• November 28th – 29th and December 23rd – January 1st: University Closures
• FRIDAY, December 13th: Exit Requirement Deadline (i.e. thesis/project defense, written/oral exam, internship, portfolio).
  • Your major department will report the results of your exit requirement on a Summary of Completion Form to the Registrar’s Office.
• December 13th and 14th: Commencement (if participating)
• December 19th: Fall 2019 grades appear on Cougarnet
• December 19th – January 17th: Registrar’s Office begins manually reviewing graduation files and awarding degrees.
  • First day that any student’s degree can be awarded for fall term 2019 is Thursday, December 19th, even if your fall class ended earlier in the semester or you are not registered in any fall 2019 classes.
  • Once the degree has been awarded in the computer system, the degree notation changes from “Pending” to “Awarded” on your Cougarnet transcript.
  • FRIDAY, January 17th: Last day to complete your graduation file and have degree awarded for fall 2019.
• Official Transcripts with Degree Awarded Information (no sooner than December 19th)
  • Need a transcript with your degree on it? Select the option to “PROCESS AFTER DEGREE AWARDED: Fall 2019”. Do not select “Process Now” or “Process after current term grades” as the Registrar’s Office manually reviews and awards degrees beginning December 19th. Especially for thesis students, your thesis may have necessary corrections that the thesis committee and/or Graduate School require. Therefore, your degree may not be awarded for fall 2019 until many days after December 19th.
  • Official transcripts can be ordered by various options, including electronic PDF.
• Diploma Mailing
  • Diplomas are mailed approximately 10 weeks after the end of fall term. Please verify your address on Cougarnet and update if necessary or send updated information to servicecenter@siue.edu.
  • Diplomas are mailed to the mailing address, if different from the permanent address. Please keep this in mind if you move after graduation.
