Graduation Deadlines, Spring 2020

This is a reminder of the remaining deadlines for all graduate students who applied for a Spring 2020 graduation.
If you are delaying your graduation to a future term, please send an e-mail to graduation@siue.edu as soon as possible stating your new intended graduation term and disregard the rest of this e-mail.
Additional Deadlines for Thesis and EdD Students Only:
- MONDAY, April 27th, 11:59PM: Initial thesis/doctoral research project submission due to the Graduate School. Follow the instructions and link for uploading your thesis/project. There is a $95 processing fee for this ProQuest ETD (Electronic Thesis/Dissertation) site.
- MONDAY, June 1st, 11:59PM: After satisfying the April 27th initial thesis submission deadline, students have until 11:59PM on Monday, June 1, 2020, to submit the absolute final thesis/doctoral research project version incorporating any changes deemed necessary by the thesis/project committee and/or Graduate School format reviewers.
Important Dates for All Students:
- Spring 2020 course withdrawal deadlines extended: refer to SIUE announcements for additional information.
- FRIDAY, May 8th: Exit Requirement Deadline for your graduate program (i.e. defense date for thesis/project/research paper, written/oral exam, internship, portfolio).
- Spring Commencement: Postponed, refer to Commencement webpage for updates
- Beginning May 13th:
- Spring 2020 grades appear on Cougarnet.
- Registrar’s Office begins manual review of Spring 2020 graduate students’ graduation files and awards degrees.
- First day that any student’s degree can be awarded for spring term 2020 is Wednesday, May 13th, even if your spring class ended earlier in the semester or you are not registered in any Spring 2020 classes.
- Once the degree has been awarded in the computer system, the degree notation changes from “Pending” to “Awarded” on your Cougarnet transcript.
- Official Transcripts with Degree Awarded Information (no sooner than May 13th)
- Need a transcript with your degree on it? Select the option to “PROCESS AFTER DEGREE AWARDED: Spring 2020”. Do not select “Process Now” or “Process after current term grades” as the Registrar’s Office manually reviews and awards degrees beginning May 13th. Especially for thesis/Ed.D students, your thesis/project may have necessary corrections that your committee and/or Graduate School require. Therefore, your degree may not be awarded for Spring 2020 until many days after May 13th.
- Official transcripts can be ordered by various options, including electronic PDF.
- Diploma Mailing
- Diplomas are mailed approximately 10 weeks after the end of spring term. Please verify and update your address, if necessary, on Cougarnet or from your SIUE email account to servicecenter@siue.edu.
- Diplomas are mailed to the mailing address, if different from the permanent address. Please keep this in mind if you move after graduation.
- Diplomas will not be mailed if you have an outstanding financial obligation to the University.
