Race Dynamics & Racism on Today's Campus

This free Fall Conference will be a time to talk about the issue of addressing race, racism and other acts of hate on our campus. We can all become change agents. Curious to see a portion of what you are missing each Saturday morning in downtown Edwardsville at the Goshen Market?  Hungry for fresh fruit and vegetables?  Looking for a unique gift?  Then come to the Edwardsville Farmer's Market on the Quad! The first 100 students will receive a reusable grocery bag with coupons to local businesses and market vendors.  If nothing else, come listen to the live music or enjoy a relaxing yoga session on the green - just be ready for an evening of sustainability focused fun.

Campus Racism Hack-A-Thon

Please join the National Pan-Hellenic Council and Panhellenic Council as they bring you lecturer, Lawrence Ross.  Mr. Ross will come to campus and deliver his Blackballed lecture, KNOW BETTER/DO BETTER.  The lecture goes over the deeper reasons why campus racism exists, while giving solutions to overcome it.  He will also host his Campus Racism Hack-A-Thon which is a wild and fun group exercise to address campus racism on college campuses.

Safe Zone Ally Training

The goal of Safe Zone training is to provide attendees skills and understanding for supporting the LGBTQIA community.  Space is limited and you must register to attend this training.  Students register HERE. 

What is Safe Zone?  Safe Zone is a community of people who:
  • Will be understanding, supportive, and trustworthy if LGBTQIA people need help, advice, or just someone to talk to.
  • Will not tolerate homophobic, heterosexist, cisgenderism comments and actions but will address them in an educational and informative manner.
  • Have attended Safe Zone training and have information on campus and community resources.

Mission and Goals of Safe Zone:

Safe Zone's mission at SIUE is to develop a campus community of allies and provide support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, and ally (LGBTQIA) students, faculty, and staff with the ultimate goal of developing SIUE as a safe and welcoming place for LGBTQIA people.

The Kimmel Student Involvement Center is located in the Morris University Center next to the Bank of Edwardsville. The Kimmel Student Involvement Center is the focal point of student involvement and campus life at SIUE. For more information visit our website HERE!
