The Department of Physics and the SIUE Student Branch of the Optical Society of America present:

Steven Cundiff, PhD, Harrison M. Randall Collegiate Professor of Physics at the University of Michigan

Cundiff will present, "Optical Multi-Dimensional Coherent Spectroscopy."

Cundiff has been a member of the technical staff of AT&T Bell Laboratories. He has been on staff and served as chief of the Quantum Physics Divisvion of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) at Boulder. He is also a fellow of the Optical Society of America and the America Physical Society.  

The lecture is free and open to all.

Intramural and Club Sports Fields Open with New Synthetic Turf, Today

Campus Recreation is set to reopen the Intramural and Club Sports fields with new synthetic turf!

Join Campus Recreation at 6 p.m. today for the grand re-opening of the RecPlex!

The new synthetic turf encompasses the lighted recreation fields and softball field. The new turf will provide increased durability and safer playing surfaces to meet the needs of the intramural and club sports programs, along with student organization rentals.

There will be added cost savings for maintenance, which directly benefits our students by extending their play throughout the year.

The Employee of the Month Recognition Program Award is an esteemed accolade bestowed on an employee who epitomizes the University’s core values in his or her daily work. These employees are engaged in accomplishing the mission of the University, upholding our University’s values and routinely exceed the call of duty.

Faculty, staff or students can make nominations, but the immediate supervisor must support the nomination. Employees in their current position for two years and who have not received the award within the last five years are eligible for nomination.

Internationally Acclaimed Urban Iroquois Photographer Visits SIUE

Jeff Thomas, internationally renowned Urban Iroquois photographer, will visit SIUE to open a show of his work, "Birdman Rising: Conversations beyond Colonialism."

The show is free and open to the public.

The show will feature photographs Thomas took during his last visit to the area, including photographs of Native American artifacts from the University Museum collections and landscapes at local Native sites such as Cahokia Mounds.

Thomas is a guest of Native American Studies and its contributing Departments of Anthropology, Historical Studies, and Philosophy. His visit is made possible by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Targeted Funding Initiative.

Director Kevin Hines will be present to address the audience, and discuss resilience and recovery within mental illness. Hines is a nationally known speaker on suicide awareness and prevention.

This year's keynote speaker is University of Southern California's (USC) Parish P. Sedghizadeh, DDS, MS, QME. Sedghizadeh is an associate professor of Clinical Dentistry, the director of the USC Center for Biofilms, the section chair for Diagnostic Sciences, and the program director for the Advanced Education Program in Oral Pathology and Radiology.  

An opportunity to review outstanding student research will be available in Roller Hall, Building 263, immediately following the lecture presentation.
