SIUE's Office of Educational Outreach invites you to attend the spring 2018 Lifelong Learning Speakers Series every Wednesday at SIUE.

The topic of today's Counseling Services Brown Bag Series is "Odd/Eccentric Behavior," with Courtney Boddie, director of Counseling Services:

Students, faculty and staff are invited to bring lunch and join the Brown Bag Series in discussing odd and eccentric behaviors.
• Explore student behavior from a biopsychosocial perspective
• Differentiate behaviors that are idiosyncratic from those that are concerning
• Discuss ways to communicate effectively with student who present as “odd”
• Discuss ways to refer students who present with alarming/concerning behavior

Join us as you advance your understanding, learn how to respond appropriately, and learn about resources.

These meetings are open to all to ask questions, have a dialogue and/or express ideas about campus safety. The purpose of these briefings will be to review safety protocols and answer questions on a variety of campus safety issues.

“Sing & Play” 4-Week Class for 1- and 2-year-olds

Get ready to sing, play and move with your little one in this high-energy music class designed to be just right for children under two years of age. This new Kindermusik curriculum focuses on your child's beginning movement, helping to build the muscles your baby needs to walk, and vocal development, helping to nurture your child’s speaking and singing voice. With a mix of both parent-child joint activities and child-focused activities, you’ll be able to join right in on all the singing and dancing while also getting the chance to observe how your older baby or toddler learns on her own. 

April theme: Around the House
Home is where the heart is, but also where the cooking, eating, playtime, bathtime and pets are! Around the House makes its way through the typical routines and day-parts, from active games and play-alongs to calming, rocking lullabies.

Tuition is $75 and is due by Thursday, March 8 for the class dates below:

Dr. Paul Rasmussen, the first recipient of the Dreikurs Visiting Scholar Fellowship from the Department of Psychology, will present "Why is Adlerian/Dreikursian Thinking Relevant Today?"

Rasmussen is an accomplished scholar and teacher and an expert in the study and practice of Adlerian Psychology.

Rasmussen will present key concepts of Adler-Dreikurs theory and practice, which focus on the holistic and socially-embedded nature of humans, and the belief that their emotions and motivations are goal-directed. He will consider these questions: If humans could reset and fix all the problems of life, what realities in terms of good ideas would persist? What resources would we consider the most optimal to face life realities? What constitutes a good idea in discussion of the human experience?
