Nominate an Outstanding Coworker for the SIUE Employee Recognition Award Program

As we sit back and reflect on 2016, why not recognize employees who went above and beyond on their job throughout this past year? Please consider nominating a coworker for SIUE's Employee of the Year Recognition Program Award.

The Employee Recognition Program Award is an esteemed accolade bestowed on an employee who epitomizes the University’s core values in his/her daily work. These employees are engaged in accomplishing the mission of the University, upholding our University’s values and routinely exceed the call of duty.

Nominations can be made by faculty, staff or students, but they must be supported by the immediate supervisor. Employees must be employed in their current position for two years and not have received the award within the last five years in order to be nominated for the award.

We encourage you to nominate an outstanding coworker, so they can be recognized for their hard work and dedication.

For more information, please contact Jen Oates-Blair at joatesb@siue.edu or 650-2127. You can also visit the Human Resources page.

Security Enhanced at Vadalabene and Student Fitness Centers

Video surveillance equipment is scheduled to be installed at the SIUE Vadalabene and Student Fitness Centers by the end of January 2017 in order to enhance the overall security at SIUE.

In accordance with Section II (F) of the University’s Video Surveillance Policy, Interim Vice Chancellor for Administration Rich Walker has approved the installation of the additional security equipment that includes VC hallways and indoor pool bleacher areas, the climbing gym, both group activities rooms, the VC instructional gym, and the service area of Freshens in the Student Fitness Center.

Students, Apply for SIUE Marketing Association's Success Videos Contest

Nick Hotze, president of the SIUE Marketing Association, has announced the kickoff of the Visionary Wealth Advisors (VWA) “Success Videos” contest. The SIUE Marketing Association is the campus chapter of The American Marketing Association (AMA).

“We are extremely excited to work with Visionary Wealth Advisors, a local investment company, on this contest,” said Hotze. “The contest is an opportunity for student videographers to highlight their work and win cash prizes. The Marketing Association appreciates VWA’s interest in SIUE.”

The VWA “Success Videos” contest is open to all students. Individual students or a student team will interview a VWA client asking how VWA helped them become successful. The SIUE Marketing Association will coordinate matching the VWA clients with the SIUE students, who will then create and produce their own 5-7 minute videos.

All videos will be posted on VWA’s YouTube channel for people to vote for their favorite video. The winning videos will be recognized and awarded cash prizes at an awards event in late February or early March 2017.

Winning student videos will receive cash prizes:
First place, $400
Second place, $200
Third place, $100

For more contest information and to enter, contact Nick Hotze at nhotze@siue.edu.

FOTAD SfC Season Continues Jan. 14 with "My Father’s Dragon"

A Season for the Child (SfC)--the family-oriented live theater season sponsored by the SIUE Friends of Theater and Dance (FOTAD)—continues its 27th season on Saturday, Jan. 14, with "My Father’s Dragon," based on the Newberry Honor book.

This musical, which takes us on a comic adventure to Wild Island, will be staged by the Imaginary Theatre Co. of St. Louis at 2 p.m. in SIUE’s Katherine Dunham Hall.

Ticket costs are $7 for adults and $5 for children. Tickets are available through the SIUE Fine Arts box office, (618) 650-2774.

"My Father’s Dragon" presents the story of Jim who is restless at home while on summer vacation; however, mom knows just what will entertain him—the story of Grandpa’s adventures to rescue a captive dragon. Join Jim for a fantastic jungle journey past obstacles and wild animals as together we discover the importance of perseverance and the wonderful power of imagination.

SfC, which premiered in 1990, features adaptations of various children’s stories using interactive techniques that not only delight children and parents, but also provide a thorough learning experience.

FOTAD, a support group for the SIUE Department of Theater and Dance, uses SfC proceeds to help fund merit awards for talented SIUE theater and dance students. Each year, FOTAD awards some $5,000 in merit scholarships to qualified students, also funding scholarships for new freshmen entering the theater and dance program.
