Fall 2016 Safe Zone Committee Meeting Today

The Fall 2016 Safe Zone Committee meeting will be held:

The meeting will be held to address old and new business relative to activities of the committee. In preparation for 2017, the forum will discuss training, the St. Louis Pride parade and other special events, partnership ideas and fundraising opportunities.

Today is the Deadline for State Employees to Take Annual Online Ethics Training

The mandatory annual online ethics training is required of all State of Illinois employees.

This year, the training period for SIUE is through today.

Please visit the training website, workplaceanswers.com/uillinois and follow these directions to access your on-line training:

Campus Kitchen's "Give Thanks Give Food" Drive Continues

Campus Kitchen at SIUE is hosting a food drive, “Give Thanks Give Food” through Tuesday, Nov. 15.

This themed food drive will collect dry and canned food donations that will be used to make Thanksgiving meal grocery bags for Community Care Center clients in Granite City.

Boxes will be located in the Student Fitness Center, Kimmel Student Involvement Center, Lovejoy Library Information Desk, Peck Hall and Rendleman Hall.

The items requested for "Give Thanks Give Food" drive include:
• Stuffing
• Canned vegetables
• Canned yams  and potatoes
• Instant mashed potatoes
• Gravy
• Macaroni and cheese
• Applesauce
• Canned fruit
• Gift cards to grocery stores are also appreciated

Register Now for SIUE School of Engineering's Explore Academic Excellence Day, Nov. 12

The School of Engineering Open House is an excellent opportunity for prospective students and their parents to learn more about the School, its programs and facilities. Guests can participate in laboratory demonstrations and information sessions, speak to advisors, current students and faculty, and attend building and campus tours.

Representatives from local engineering, computer science and construction companies will be on hand to answer questions about employment opportunities. Scholarship drawings will take place at the end of the day.

The day begins at the Morris University Center with a presentation by the School of Engineering, followed by presentations from individual programs. Participants will then visit the Engineering Building, where they can visit labs, view student projects, speak with faculty, students, campus and industry partners. The SIUE Office of Financial Aid will also offer a presentation to visitors.

University Staff Senate Scholarship for Labor Union Members, Deadline Nov. 12

ATTENTION: All Labor Union Members 

The University Staff Senate has made available a scholarship from the Faculty for Collective Bargaining monies. The University Staff Senate handles the funds for the Faculty for Collective Bargaining Scholarship, which was established to provide scholarship awards to qualifying SIUE students.

To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship award, you must meet the following criteria:

1. You must be an employee (the labor union member) or the son, daughter, grandchild, spouse or civil union partner of a labor union member presently employed or retired civil service (excluding non-status), professional staff employee or non-tenure track faculty member of SIUE.

2. You must meet admissions requirements for undergraduate study at SIUE and be admitted for full-time undergraduate study.

3. Applicants with fewer than twelve semester hours earned in college: You must have an ACT composite of 19 or above (unless exempt because of SIUE'S admission standards). You must have at least a high school GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0=A. Applications can be accessed at siue.edu/ugov/staff/

4. Applicants with twelve or more semester hours earned in college: You must have completed at least one term as a full-time college student. You must have at least a college GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.0=A. Applications can be accessed at siue.edu/ugov/staff/

Your application will be evaluated on the following criteria: a typed essay written by you, overall GPA or its equivalent, co-curricular activities (e.g. clubs, sports, volunteerism, family responsibilities, etc.), honors and/or awards, work history and current letter of recommendation addressed to USSS Committee (within one year of application).

The URCA program is now recruiting for the 2017-18 URCA Associate class.

URCA Associates are a small group (at most, 10 students per year) of upper-level students who develop their own student-led project and then complete that project under the guidance of a faculty mentor over the course of an academic year. (Note: This is separate from the URCA Assistant program where many more students work on faculty-led projects for one semester. The completely separate student application website for Spring 2017 Assistant positions will be up and running in the coming weeks.)

If you know of students who may be interested, please encourage them to visit the URCA website, specifically the section on URCA Associates (siue.edu/urca/whatisassociate), where they can find more information regarding benefits, eligibility and how to apply.

Single-Game Tickets for 2016-17 SIUE Basketball Season are on Sale Now

Cougar fans now have the opportunity to secure their seats for SIUE men's basketball under second-year Head Coach Jon Harris and SIUE women's basketball under fifth-year Head Coach Paula Buscher.

Featured on this season's slate of games for SIUE is a Nov. 18 matchup with the Salukis of SIU Carbondale. Last season, SIUE defeated SIU Carbondale on the road 76-74. Faculty and staff can receive significant savings for tickets by using the promo code CAMPUS16.

The men's schedule includes 13 games including nonconference home contests against IUPUI (Nov. 26), Stetson (Dec. 7), Missouri Western (Dec. 10) and Missouri S&T (Dec. 28).

The OVC season begins Saturday, Dec. 31 for the men's team against Tennessee Tech. SIUE also has home contests against Austin Peay (Jan. 12), Murray State (Jan. 14), Tennessee State (Jan. 25), Jacksonville State (Feb. 4), Southeast Missouri (Feb. 9), UT Martin (Feb. 11) and Eastern Illinois (Feb. 25).

The SIUE women's basketball team begins its home season on Sunday, Nov. 6 with an exhibition contest against Lindenwood.

The nonconference schedule features four games beginning with SIU Carbondale on Wednesday, Nov. 23. The Cougars also face Western Illinois (Nov. 27), UMSL (Dec. 11) and Illinois State (Dec. 23).

SIUE's OVC season also kicks off Dec. 31 against Tennessee Tech. The rest of the home OVC schedule is Murray State (Jan. 15), Southeast Missouri (Jan. 18), Tennessee State (Jan. 25), Jacksonville State (Feb. 4), UT Martin (Feb. 11), Austin Peay (Feb. 15) and Eastern Illinois (Feb. 25).
