This Sunday on WSIE-FM 88.7’s Segue, College of Arts and Sciences Dean Greg Budzban hosts Jeff Manuel, associate professor in the Department of Historical Studies, to discuss Manuel’s recently authored book, “Taconite Dreams: The Struggle to Sustain Mining on Minnesota’s Iron Range, 1915-2000.”

The text received a 2016 Hamlin Garland Prize, an annual award presented by the Midwestern History Association to historians whose projects represent the best in popular history writing concerning the American Midwest.

The SIUE Student Government will sponsor its Second Annual Veteran's Day Luncheon:

Register Now for SIUE School of Engineering's Explore Academic Excellence Day, Nov. 12

The School of Engineering Open House is an excellent opportunity for prospective students and their parents to learn more about the School, its programs and facilities. Guests can participate in laboratory demonstrations and information sessions, speak to advisors, current students and faculty, and attend building and campus tours.

Representatives from local engineering, computer science and construction companies will be on hand to answer questions about employment opportunities. Scholarship drawings will take place at the end of the day.

The day begins at the Morris University Center with a presentation by the School of Engineering, followed by presentations from individual programs. Participants will then visit the Engineering Building, where they can visit labs, view student projects, speak with faculty, students, campus and industry partners. The SIUE Office of Financial Aid will also offer a presentation to visitors.

2016 Angel Tree Deadline, Nov. 11

There are more than 100 local children who are in need of gifts and clothes this holiday season!

Any organization, student, faculty or staff can sponsor a child or multiple children this holiday season.

To sign up to sponsor a child, please stop by the Student Government Office front desk, located in the Student Success Center (SSC), room 1280.

Important Dates:

· Friday, Nov. 11: Deadline to sponsor a child

· Monday, Nov. 14: Begin picking up Angels from Student Government Office, SSC 1280

· Thursday, Nov. 17: Last day to pick-up Angels by 4 p.m.

· Monday-Thursday, Nov. 28-31: Drop off labeled presents to Student Government Office

· Saturday, Dec. 3: Children's holiday celebration and gift pick-up
   9 a.m.-Noon
   Meridian Ballroom

We encourage student organizations to participate in the event on December 3rd! The organization that accumulates the most "angel points" by adopting the most angels, donating wrapping paper, providing the most volunteers and participating in our “ugly” Holiday sweater contest, will receive a $150 credit on their organization account.

There will also be treats, games, crafts, pictures with Santa and opportunities to interact with the children to be sponsored.
