Preview SIUE Welcomes More than 900 to Campus Today

The Office of Admissions, in partnership with many in the SIUE community, welcomes more than 900 guests, including more than 330 prospective students, to campus today for the annual Preview SIUE program.

This program allows students and their guests to experience and explore the many opportunities at SIUE.

Preview SIUE will kick off at 9:30 a.m. today in the Vadalabene Center and will continue throughout the day with a majority of the programming within the Morris University Center.

The Morris University Center will be busy throughout the day, especially during lunch. Guests are expected to be on campus until 2:30 p.m.

Thank you to those who are a part of this most important visiting program for SIUE. Please join the Office of Admissions in welcoming these guests, showing them the excitement of the campus and helping them to see why SIUE can be their future home for their educational goals.

Lindsay Serrano Named as New Confidential Advisor

As part of the University's ongoing efforts to prevent sexual assault and to provide prompt and caring support for survivors of sexual violence, as well as responding to a State of Illinois mandate, Lindsay Serrano, M.Ed., LCPC, a staff counselor and wellness education coordinator at SIUE Counseling Services, has taken on the newly established role of Confidential Advisor for SIUE.

Serrano will work closely with survivors of all forms of sexual violence (including sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking and intimate partner violence) to help them understand their options for reporting the sexual violence (if they choose to do so), receiving medical or mental health care, and accessing other resources that may assist them with the healing process.

All services provided are confidential, free of charge and focus on the needs and preferences of the survivor.

Some specific tasks associated with the CA role include:

  • Informing the survivor of reporting options and their possible outcomes
  • Discussing resources and services for survivors, both on and off campus, for medical, emotional, and legal support and assistance
  • Notifying the survivor of their rights, and the University’s responsibilities, regarding orders of protection or no-contact orders. And, upon the survivor’s request, serving as a liaison for seeking interim living arrangements and/or protective measures
  • Serving as a confidential point of contact for survivors

Serrano brings many strengths and a wealth of experience to this new role. She has nearly four years of experience in assisting survivors with the impact of sexual trauma. Prior to joining the SIUE Counseling Services staff, she served Madison and St. Clair counties as an employee of the local rape crisis center and has completed the mandatory 40-hour training on sexual violence

Please join me in welcoming Serrano to this new role!

Those who wish to set up an appointment with Serrano or to ask questions about the services provided, may contact her directly at 650-5664 or lserran@siue.edu
