Apply Now for University Staff Senate Fall 2016 Scholarships

The University Staff Senate is accepting applications for its fall scholarship.

The deadline for receipt of the entire typed application packet:
4:30 p.m.
Sunday, July 10

The University Staff Senate has established a fund to provide scholarship awards to qualifying SIUE students. To be eligible for consideration for a scholarship award, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must be the son, daughter, grandchild, spouse or civil union partner of a presently employed or retired civil service (excluding non-status) or professional staff employee (excluding appointments of less than 50 percent and term appointments of less than six months) of SIUE.
  • You must meet admissions requirements for undergraduate study at SIUE.

The scholarship award will be applied to your University account for the semester. This award will be reported to the Office of Student Financial Aid to be considered in evaluating your overall financial aid package. Should this amount, combined with other awards or payments, cause a credit balance on your account, a refund check will be mailed to you from the Bursar's Office.

SIUE makes it easy to apply for scholarships quickly online. Through the SIUE scholarship management system, all students can browse and apply for more than 450 scholarships available in the various schools, departments and units at SIUE. This system also offers information on various external or outside scholarships available as well.

To browse all scholarship opportunities and awards, visit siue.academicworks.com

To begin a scholarship application, follow these steps:

1. Login at siue.academicworks.com sign in with your e-ID and password. You must have already been accepted to SIUE and received your e-ID and password.

2. Fill out the general scholarship application. The system will search for scholarships and awards you may be eligible for. For some, you will automatically be entered into the applicant pool and others may require you to answer additional questions.

3. Continue to check the system regularly as new scholarships become available at different times, also be sure to browse our “external” scholarship list that provides information and direct links to outside scholarship websites.

If you meet the eligibility criteria above, the software will direct you to the Staff Senate Summer Scholarship page. Please, complete by 4:30 p.m. Sunday, July 10. You are responsible for contacting the University Governance Office to ensure your application packet is complete.

You will be notified of the decision of the Scholarship Selection Committee.

For more information about the application process, please contact University Governance Secretary Vicki Kruse at 650-2770 or Norris Manning at 650-3840.

Register Now for the Women's Leadership Summit, July 13

A cadre of female executive presenters will headline The “W” Network’s Metro East Women’s Leadership Summit:

11:30 a.m.-2 p.m.
Wednesday, July 13
SIUE Morris University Center

The premiere event of The “W” Network of Downstate Illinois, an education and network-building organization where women leaders can engage and support each other, will feature two prominent female executives from the St. Louis region as guest speakers.

The presenters are Danna N. Ellison, district vice president of Graybar, and Kay Guse, director of program management integration at The Boeing Company.

Silvia Torres Bowman, director of SIUE’s International Trade Center (ITC), and Sherry Brianza, president/founder of Brianza Sales & Marketing Inc. and Brianza Bella LLC, are heading the “W” Network event. The event is funded through the generosity of the SIUE Meridian Society, which awarded The “W” Network a $1,000 grant for outstanding community outreach.

“We’re grateful to the Meridian Society for its generous support of the professional network we are actively building for women across the Metro East,” said Torres Bowman. “The Meridian Society’s goal of providing leadership through philanthropy matches perfectly with The ‘W’ Network’s mission to inspire and support women in all professional walks of life.”

For more information on The “W” Network or to register for the event, contact Torres Bowman at sitorre@siue.edu or (618) 650-3851. You can also visit the ITC’s website to download a flyer.

There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited and registration is required.

Now Accepting Nominations for the Employee Recognition Program

Do you work alongside someone who has a strong commitment toward achieving excellence in their work? Why not nominate them for the Employee Recognition Program award?

The Employee Recognition Program award is an esteemed accolade bestowed on an employee who epitomizes the University’s core values in his/her daily work. The employee is engaged in accomplishing the mission of the University and routinely exceeds the call of duty.

The program is designed to recognize civil service and professional staff employees for their exceptional accomplishments and service to our community. Employees may be nominated for this prestigious award by faculty, staff, or students. The nomination must be made or supported by the immediate supervisor.

Further information about Employee of the Month rewards, nomination criteria, and the nomination form can be obtained here.

Nominations are due in the Office of Human Resources by close of business Friday, July 15 to be eligible for the August Award. Awards are presented once a month.

Since employees may receive the award only once, please contact Annette Eversole at ext. 2297 before submitting a nomination.
