Chancellor Candidate Visits Announced

On behalf of the Chancellor Search Advisory Committee, Chair Gireesh Gupchup has announced that airport interviews for the chancellor candidates have been completed and four chancellor finalists will visit SIUE's campuses in the next few weeks.

The names of all finalists will be announced on April 18, 2016. We will share CVs for each candidate, and we will have an evaluation form available for each individual that can be submitted electronically through the chancellor search website.

A complete list including the dates, times and locations for all of the public forums can be found on the chancellor search website.

The first candidate will visit Wednesday, April 20 - Friday, April 22.

Attend the 6th Annual Children's Art Exhibit

The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Early Childhood Center is holding its 6th Annual Children's Art Exhibit in connection with the National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) Week of the Young Child.

The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

NAEYC first established the Week of the Young Child in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years (birth through age 8) lay the foundation for children's success in school and later life.

FMLA Overview Session Today

The Office of Human Resources will hold a Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) overview session for SIUE employees who supervise others and handle FMLA requests.

This session is intended for supervisors and above as we will cover the administrative duties, explain the employee benefits and discuss how this leave works in conjunction with our sick and vacation leaves.

Justice Too Long Delayed, April 15-16

Justice Too Long Delayed: A Celebration of Letter From Birmingham Jail

The performance is a cutting-edge interpretation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s response to the critics of his presence in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1963. Using the Letter from Birmingham Jail as a backdrop, comparisons of issues of social justice during the civil rights and Black Lives Matter movements will be brought to light in a theatrical experience that is both entertaining and insightful.

Kathryn Bentley, associate professor in the SIUE Department of Theater and Dance, and Fannie Belle Lebby are directing. Student performers include Kenny Coleman, Ashley Dozier, Quincy Gordon, Timothy Tan, Justin Truman and stage manager Emma Hersom.

The performance is free. Seating is limited and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Presentation by Member of the Ulama, April 19

Members of the SIUE community will have an opportunity to hear from and speak to Sayyid Sameer Ali, an American Muslim member of the ulama. The ulama is the body of Muslim scholars who balance the exigencies of modern life with centuries of inherited scholarship on everything from the division of estates to the welfare of the heart.

Undergraduate Scholars Showcase, April 28

It’s time again for the SIUE Undergraduate Scholars Showcase. You are invited to learn about the outstanding work SIUE’s undergraduates have accomplished in their major programs.

The Undergraduate Scholars Showcase is our annual opportunity to highlight the depth and variety of learning experiences offered by SIUE’s Senior Assignment program and the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (URCA) program.

Each academic unit demonstrates the best of what the University's undergraduates have mastered. Each department and program nominates two outstanding senior assignment projects to be presented at the Undergraduate Scholars Showcase. In keeping with the spirit of last year’s event, URCA associates and assistants will be displaying their presentations as well.

Each participant will receive a certificate of achievement and will be honored at a closing reception. This growing event allows students, faculty and community members an opportunity to celebrate learning and our students’ accomplishments.
