Supplemental Retirement Plan Information Session Today

The Office of Human Resources is hosting a Supplemental Retirement seminar for SIUE employees that will provide an overview of voluntary supplemental retirement plan options.

Information about the SIUE Supplemental Retirement Plan (403b) and the State Deferred Compensation Plan (457) will be presented.

Representatives from the three approved vendors participating in the Supplemental Retirement Plan (403b) will present information about their company’s investment choices and discuss the benefits of participating in a Supplemental Retirement Plan. Each vendor will speak for a 30-minute period:

Last Day to Gather Candidacy Forms for Staff Senate Elections

The University Staff Senate represents civil service and professional staff of SIUE. Employees who are represented by labor organizations, as well as employees who are not represented, can participate on the University Staff Senate, its panels or committees.

The University Staff Senate manages two scholarship funds: The University Staff Senate Scholarship and the Faculty for Collective Bargaining Scholarship Fund. Civil service and professional staff employees participate in the governance of the University via the senate and its panels. All senate and panel members are elected officers. Elections will be held on Wednesday, April 13. Terms begin Thursday, Sept. 1.

Petition and statement of candidacy forms are available from the University Governance Office until 4:30 p.m. today or online.

Graduation Readiness Workshop Series Begins March 24

The Career Development Center will be hosting a Graduation Readiness Workshop Series beginning this week. Although these workshops are designed for students preparing to graduate, all students are welcome to attend.

Art Therapy Student Art Exhibition Opening Reception, March 24

The opening reception for the 33rd Annual Art Therapy Student Art Exhibition Perspectives will be held:

The opening reception will feature live music by Sarah Pray and spoken word performed by Veronica Delgado.

The exhibition runs through Saturday, April 2. A closing reception will be held that day from 12:30-1:15 p.m.

Free Screenings at SIU SDM, March 28

All graduating senior dental students must take a patient-based clinical licensing examination prior to being eligible to apply for a license to practice dentistry. The examination for the Class of 2016 is scheduled for April 4 and 5.

We need your help in advance of this licensing exam to complete this requirement. You can help by participating in in a FREE dental screening.

FREE screenings will be offered:

A FREE dental screening including select x-rays will be offered to patients willing to participate and who are 16 years and older.

IF accepted as a Board Examination patient during your screening visit, you must be willing to come to the dental school and receive treatment on a select board examination day—either April 4 or 5. There will be NO CHARGE for the treatment you will receive during the Board Exam.

No appointment is necessary. Please bring a photo ID. Free parking is available in the patient parking area (off of Annex Street).

Graduate School Spring Symposium, March 29

Please note the following 20th Annual Graduate School Spring Symposium featured events.

Dr. Hernando Ombao, Professor and Graduate Program Director of Statistics at the University of California, Irvine, will deliver the keynote address, titled "The Contributions of Statistics to Brain Research." Ombao will demonstrate how statistical modeling was used to identify differences in brain activity between healthy subjects and stroke patients. There will also be a novel statistical model presented to demonstrate that brain signals evolve over the course of an associative learning experiment. He will highlight the contributions that statisticians have made to the field of statistical neuroimaging and discuss how statistical principles will generally apply to other disciplines that collect big data for the purpose of testing hypotheses in complex social and biological processes.

Dr. Steven Pryor, director of digital initiatives and technologies with SIUE Library & Information Services will host a workshop, titled "Open Access to Research: A Guide to Policies and Resources for SIUE Faculty." The workshop will explore SIUE SPARK, the university’s open access institutional repository. Discussion will include the significant advantages for authors who make open access versions of their work available; how SIUE faculty can easily comply with the SIUE Open Access policy and the benefits of open access to faculty in posting their work in SPARK.

SIUE Relay For Life is trying to make a difference by fundraising for The American Cancer Society. As a university, our goal is $24,000.
 
Five-hundred lives are saved every day because of the progress that has been made against cancer, in part because of people who have supported the American Cancer Society.

The carnival will feature a disc jockey, zumba and other activities for teams to compete in.
