The Arcus Awards are presented to companies, organizations and institutions that demonstrate exceptional commitment to leading the St. Louis region’s authentic economic strengths and championing a better tomorrow for our region.

These awards recognize companies and organizations that make the St. Louis region the best place to live, work and invest.

SIUE was nominated for the Chamber’s Arcus Awards in the following three areas:

The SIUE East St. Louis Center (ESLC) for educational attainment

The SIUE Eugene B. Redmond Learning Center for achievement in inclusion and talent attraction

The SIUE Metro East Start-Up Challenge for entrepreneurship and innovation

Arcus Awards will be held:

Winners will be announced at the ceremony.

SIUE, along with all the other nominees, are also vying for a new Arcus Award: The Arcus People’s Choice Award.

Catch Today's Showing of the Spring 2016 Diversity Film Series

The Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion is sponsoring a diversity film series open to the entire University community.

This semester’s series includes a four-part film entitled: The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow, as well as other films including Memory of a Forgotten WarFreedom on My Mind, and a presentation on Strategies for Serving and Supporting Transgender Students. These films will encompass many topics of diversity and inclusion.

The film series is open to faculty, staff and students, with a maximum attendance of 25 people at each session.

Donate Today to Help "Raise the Dough"

The Campus Kitchen at SIUE is competing with 21 other Campus Kitchens across the country to see which campus can “raise the most dough” in the Campus Kitchens Project “Raise the Dough” fundraiser competition through Friday, Feb. 26.

The Campus Kitchen at SIUE relies solely on monetary and in-kind donations to continue fighting hunger in the St. Louis Metro area.

With conflicts and alliances between state and non-state actors in the region constantly shifting, what can the U.S. do to secure its interests in the Middle East without causing further disruption?

The Strange Crusade of Willis M. Everett is presented by James Weingartner, PhD, emeritus professor in the Department of Historical Studies. An Atlanta attorney was appointed by the U.S. Army to defend 74 Nazi Waffen-SS accused of murdering American POWs and Belgian civilians during the Battle of the Bulge. All were convicted in one of the most notorious war crimes cases, but Everett, convinced the trial was a travesty of justice, fought for years to reverse the decision. Was Everett a heroic fighter for justice or a dupe for the Nazis? You decide.

Well Water Tragedies is presented Don Anderson, retired director of the Illinois Environmental Resources Training Center at SIUE. Alamosa, Colorado and Crestwood, Illinois have experienced drinking water tragedies within the last nine years. Public well water supplied by the cities to its residents caused illness, future long-term health uncertainty, damage claims in the millions of dollars and death in at least one instance. What happened, why and how could such tragedy have been prevented?

Applications Due Feb. 29: STEM Center's Faculty Research Fellowship Program

The SIUE STEM Center announces its FY17 faculty research fellowship program.

This is a competitive fellowship, open to tenure-track or tenured faculty members, to engage in undergraduate education research aligned with the mission of the STEM Center to innovate ways to engage students in STEM. The successful applicant will be a faculty fellow with the STEM Center beginning in summer or fall of 2016, during which time the applicant will conduct a faculty-initiated research project.

To support the faculty member’s research, the STEM Center will pay for one course release during the academic year and upon completion of the project, the fellow will be funded for travel to one state, regional or national conference to present the findings of the study.
