Massachusetts Mutual Representative on Campus Today

Massachusetts Mutual, an approved vendor in the SIUE Supplemental Retirement (403b) Plan, will be on campus:

Participation in the SIUE Supplemental Retirement (403b) Plan can:

  • Help you supplement your retirement income
  • Lower your annual taxes since your 403(b) contributions can be made on a pre-tax basis
  • Provide tax deferred growth on your investment earnings because they grow tax-free until time of withdrawal

The 2014 limits for the 403b Plan are $17,500 for employees under age 50 and $23,000 for employees age 50 and older.

Nomination Deadline for Employee Recognition Program, Feb. 15

The Employee Recognition Program Award is an esteemed accolade bestowed on an employee who epitomizes the University’s core values in his/her daily work. The employee is engaged in accomplishing the mission of the University and routinely exceeds the call of duty. Do you work alongside someone who has a strong commitment toward achieving excellence in their work? 

Why not nominate them for the Employee Recognition Program award? The program is designed to recognize civil service and professional staff employees for their exceptional accomplishments and service to our community. Employees may be nominated for this prestigious award by faculty, staff or students. The nomination must be made or supported by the immediate supervisor.  

More information regarding rewards, nomination criteria and the nomination form can be obtained online.

Nominations are due in the Office of Human Resources by close of business Monday, Feb. 15 to be eligible for the March Award.

Proof Play Opens on Stage, Feb. 17

Come out to see the play, Proof, written by David Auburn, winner of the 2001 Pultizer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play. The play is also directed by Peter Cocuzza, professor in the Department of Theater and Dance.

Marian Smithson is a retiree and a former director of the SIUE Financial Aid Department. She now spends her time teaching plant lovers how to care for their greenery. She is a Master Gardener who currently co-leads the crew of 22 Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists at The Gardens at SIUE.

In this session, she will teach you how to :

  • Create and maintain sizzling containers of annuals and perennials for your porch, deck or patio this summer
  • Create containers appropriate for different seasons and keep them looking healthy
  • Choose and maintain compatible combinations of annuals/perennials for your summer containers for the porch deck or patio

This session is brought to you by University of Illinois Extension office of Horticulture & Natural Resources.

Applications Due Feb. 29: STEM Center's Faculty Research Fellowship Program

The SIUE STEM Center announces its FY17 faculty research fellowship program.

This is a competitive fellowship, open to tenure-track or tenured faculty members, to engage in undergraduate education research aligned with the mission of the STEM Center to innovate ways to engage students in STEM. The successful applicant will be a faculty fellow with the STEM Center beginning in summer or fall of 2016, during which time the applicant will conduct a faculty-initiated research project.

To support the faculty member’s research, the STEM Center will pay for one course release during the academic year and upon completion of the project, the fellow will be funded for travel to one state, regional or national conference to present the findings of the study.
