SIUE Marketing and Communications Wins Five Collegiate Advertising Awards

The SIUE University Marketing and Communications Department received five awards from the 2015 Collegiate Advertising Awards competition.

With entries judged on creativity, layout/design, typography, production, quality and overall effectiveness, SIUE earned gold awards in four categories:

  • The SIUE Chancellor’s Report in the annual report category
  • SIUE Fine and Performing Arts Muny Theater Program Ads in the Magazine Advertising – Series category
  • SIUE Research and Creative Activities in the Direct Mail – Single category
  • SIUE Cougars Fall Sports Schedule Poster in the Poster/Display – Single category

The Eddie the Cougar Mascot received a silver award in the Logos/Trademarks/Mascots category. SIUE enhanced its standing from a year ago when it received four total awards, including two gold for the 2014 competition.

The Collegiate Advertising Awards is an elite national program seeking to recognize today’s most talented marketing professionals for outstanding excellence in all forms of advertising, marketing and promotion specific to higher education products and services.

The Collegiate Ad Awards allows institutions’ marketing and advertising efforts to compete against similarly sized colleges and universities from across the nation.

Lifelong Learning Programs, Feb. 10 and 11

The Rise of ISIS will be presented by Denise Degarmo, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Political Science. Born out of an umbrella organization of Al Qaeda in Iraq, the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) burst onto the international stage after it seized Fallujah in 2013. Learn about its origins, activities, ideology and more. This presentation is part of the Great Decisions series of world affairs topics.

Eckert’s: The Story of the Past, Present and Future of a 7 Generation Family Farm will be presented by Chris Eckert, CEO of Eckert Companies. The story of the Eckert family and its transformation over seven generations into the largest “pick your own” farm in the U.S. will be told. He will also address how climate, regulation and technology impact the business today.

Sunni, Shiite and ISIS Challenges in the Middle East will be presented by Luke Snell, PhD, emeritus professor of construction in the School of Engineering. One of the major issues facing the world today is the ISIS threat in the Middle East. Snell has traveled to and from the Middle East for the last 30 years and will give you a unique snapshot of what is going on in this troubled part of the world.

Nomination Deadline for Employee Recognition Program, Feb. 15

The Employee Recognition Program Award is an esteemed accolade bestowed on an employee who epitomizes the University’s core values in his/her daily work. The employee is engaged in accomplishing the mission of the University and routinely exceeds the call of duty. Do you work alongside someone who has a strong commitment toward achieving excellence in their work? 

Why not nominate them for the Employee Recognition Program award? The program is designed to recognize civil service and professional staff employees for their exceptional accomplishments and service to our community.  mployees may be nominated for this prestigious award by faculty, staff or students. The nomination must be made or supported by the immediate supervisor.

Nominations are due in the Office of Human Resources by close of business Monday, Feb. 15 to be eligible for the March Award.

SIUE Police Presents Self Defense Course, Feb. 27

The SIUE Police Department is presenting a one-day, free of charge, self defense course: Rape, Aggression, Defense (R.A.D.) Systems. The course is offered for WOMEN ONLY (faculty, staff, students and their guests).

R.A.D. is a nationally certified self defense program designed specifically for women.  We will spend the day teaching you different techniques on how to defend yourself. At the end of the day, we put an officer in a padded suit and allow the students to use the skills taught to defend themselves.  

Appropriate clothing would be tennis shoes, T-shirt with sweat pants or shorts. Bring money for lunch options in the MUC or bring a sack lunch.
