Dr. Linda Markowitz, professor in the Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice Studies, will present "Christian Ignorance and the Selective Application of Abstract Individualism."

Markowitz will explore the ignoring of Christian privilege in on public space -- elementary schools. 

Using 27 interviews, she will show how elementary school teachers and administrators cultivate a culture of ignorance about the celebration of Christmas in their public schools.

There are a few more openings for the SIUE Music Lovers Tour of Cuba, May 14-21.

Though the date to register has passed, it is possible to sign up for this once in a lifetime trip, scheduled for this May. Explore the diverse Cuban cities of Havana, Trinidad and Cienfuegos. Listen and learn about the variety of different music styles in these three cities.

Submit Proposals for Meridian Society Award by Feb. 1

Looking for funding (up to $5,000) for your SIUE Community-based Project? 

The Meridian Society is looking to fund projects that demonstrate a collaborative effort between an SIUE unit and a community organization. SIUE College, Schools, Major Units, Departments and Organizations (including student organizations) with an SIUE account are invited to apply for the 2016 Meridian Awards.

Attend the Pink Zone Reception and Note Runners for Remembrance Needed

Also Note: The fourth annual Pink Zone is in need of filling a few spots for the Runners for Remembrance event during the women’s basketball game on Feb. 6. Please sign up today!

The runner (or walker) can honor a loved one by exercising for five minutes of game time on the treadmill during the Pink Zone event. The runner/walker’s dedication will be announced at the game and shown on the video board.

Register Now for Saturday Studio Art Workshops

The SIUE Department of Art & Design will hold Saturday Studio Art Workshops:

9:30-11:30 a.m.
February 13-April 16 (no classes on March 12)
Art & Design West

Studio instruction is being offered for primary, intermediate, and junior/senior high school students. All classes are designed to stimulate creative growth of students, with emphasis on developing skills in the use of the media and generating ideas for creative expression. Art teachers in these Saturday Studio classes are becoming certified art specialists and are art majors in the Department of Art and Design.

Apply Now for the STEM Center's Faculty Research Fellowship Program

The SIUE STEM Center announces its FY17 faculty research fellowship program.

This is a competitive fellowship, open to tenure-track or tenured faculty members, to engage in undergraduate education research aligned with the mission of the STEM Center to innovate ways to engage students in STEM. The successful applicant will be a faculty fellow with the STEM Center beginning in summer or fall of 2016, during which time the applicant will conduct a faculty-initiated research project.

To support the faculty member’s research, the STEM Center will pay for one course release during the academic year and upon completion of the project, the fellow will be funded for travel to one state, regional or national conference to present the findings of the study.
