Dolores Rohrkaste, 1923-2020; Distinguished Service Award Recipient

Dolores H. Rohrkaste, of Glen Carbon, died Wednesday, March 4 at home. She was 96.
An Edwardsville native, Rohrkaste was the first woman president of the Edwardsville Chamber of Commerce in 1953. A longtime community leader, she was one of six at the SIUE groundbreaking on June 6, 1963.
Rohrkaste was on the board and supported several nonprofits, including SIUE’s Meridian Society, Friends of Lovejoy Library, the International Students Program and the SIUE Foundation. She spoke at SIUE’s 2011 commencement ceremony upon receiving a Distinguished Service Award.
Funeral services were held in March. Memorials are suggested to Backstoppers and the Main Street Community Center.
