Dr. Angie Royal Appointed Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Miriam Roccia, has named Angie Royal, EdD, as Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Royal’s appointment begins April 7. Royal joins SIUE from Culver-Stockton College where she served most recently as Vice President for Student Experience. “Angie’s more than 20 years of progressive experience in student engagement, retention, crisis response, curricular and co-curricular learning, and auxiliary operations make her well-suited to support divisional and institutional strategic goals,” said Roccia. “Angie carries a passion for creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students and her unwavering commitment to student belonging and success is well-aligned to the 4Ward Focus Student Success Framework that drives our work efforts in the Division of Student Affairs.”
Royal holds a EdD in Higher Education - Instructional Leadership from Lindenwood University, and a master’s and bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She holds certifications in College Student Wellbeing, Trauma & Resilience and Restorative Practices in Higher Education from Florida State University and University of San Diego Center for Restorative Justice, respectively.
Royal will provide innovative and forward-thinking vision that leverages institutional strengths, best practices, and current trends, in partnership with academic affairs, to reimagine a co-curricular experience that prioritizes student engagement, belonging, and learning.
She brings with her a wealth of experience from her previous roles, which include Interim Director of Student Life and Director of Student Involvement at Lindenwood University where she led major campus-wide programs like Homecoming and Family Weekend and served as the building director for the student union and recreation facility. As Director of New Student Programs at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Royal led Orientation, Welcome Week, and extended orientation and transition programs for more than 3,000 students and families.

"I look forward to working alongside Miriam, the Student Affairs team, and our campus partners to serve current and future Cougars and to advance the mission of the institution.”
The AVCSA will provide executive level leadership of the Student Affairs organization of the following units: Kimmel Belonging and Engagement Hub (Sorority & Fraternity Life, Student Organizations, Student Leadership/Development, Community Engagement, Campus Activities Board, Student Government, Campus Programming, History and Heritage Month Programming), New Student and Family Programs, Career Development Center, Dining Services, Campus Recreation (Club Sports, Intramurals, Group Fitness, etc.), Morris University Center (Textbook Service, Student Publications, and Cougar Store).
