Incoming Veteran Checklist
Necessary documents (all may not apply):
- DD-214 (Report of Separation)
- VA Certificate of Eligibility for Education and Training Benefits
- Official transcripts from other institutions (if transferring to SIUE)
- Military transcripts
- ACT/SAT scores (if 21 or younger)
- Most recent immunization record
- If you have a disability, you will need a doctor’s letter pertaining to it to obtain a disability card.
Pre-Admission Steps:
- Apply for admission.
- Application fee will be automatically waived for military.
- Apply for financial aid through the FAFSA website. Application opens October 1st for the following academic year.
- Visit Student Financial Aid website for calculators to help determing the cost of attendance.
- Submit all transcripts, including military, and the DD-214 to the Office of the Registrar.
- Take needed placement tests.
- Apply for VA Educational Benefits. See Educational Benefits tab for more information.
Post-Admission Steps:
- Set up an advising appointment. If you wish to identify specifically as a veteran student for advising and are an undelcared undergraduate student please mention it in your initial contact.
- For state programs such as the Illinois National Guard Grant and Illinois Veterans Grant, submit letter of eligibility to the Office of Student Financial Aid.
- For the GI Bill, fill out and submit a Veterans Benefit Information Form (Green Sheet) with your registered classes.
a. This must be submitted every semester you choose to utilize benefits.
b. Available in the Office of the Registrar or Veterans Services. - Submit immunization records to Health Services prior to your first day of attendance.
