- Should an internal Competition be required, you will receive a link via email to our Kuali Build System to upload your Pre-Submission Materia (single pdf in order indicated) by 4:30 by Friday, September 25th
Full Application to be routed in Kuali Research by Friday, October 16th, 2020 - NSF deadline for full proposal submission to agency (only three SIUE applicants allowed): November 6, 2020 by 5 P.M.
About the Program
The Advancing Informal STEM Learning (AISL) program seeks to advance new approaches to and evidence-based understanding of the design and development of STEM learning opportunities for the public in informal environments; provide multiple pathways for broadening access to and engagement in STEM learning experiences; advance innovative research on and assessment of STEM learning in informal environments; and engage the public of all ages in learning STEM in informal environments.
The AISL program supports six types of projects: (1) Pilots and Feasibility Studies, (2) Research in Service to Practice, (3) Innovations in Development, (4) Broad Implementation, (5) Literature Reviews, Syntheses, or Meta-Analyses, and (6) Conferences.
The NSF deadline for submission is November 6, 2020. As a limited program NSF allows each institution to submit only three (3) proposals.
The SIUE Internal Competition
In order to coordinate the selection of SIUE's three institutional proposals, the Office of Research and Projects asks interested faculty members to do the following. In the event only three faculty indicate interest no internal review process will occur.
- Email a Letter of Intent to Jill Laughlin, jilaugh@siue.edu no later than 4:30pm on Friday, September 11th by 4:30pm. You will be notified if an Internal Competition is required.
- Submit pre-submission materials Through Application in Kuali Buildin a single PDF in order indicated in application by 4:30 p.m. on last Friday of September.
- Narrative of 3-5 pages (following the NSF guidelines).
- Subsections include: research and contribution; broader impact and intellectual merit; methods and work plan; competencies, skills and access; final product and dissemination.
- Budget Justification outlining initial estimated budget amounts and fund use
- 2-page, single-spaced curriculum vitae with the following sections containing information most pertinent to your proposed project: Current and Past Positions; Education; Awards and Honors; Publications; Other Relevant Professional Activities and Accomplishments
- Narrative of 3-5 pages (following the NSF guidelines).
Internal submissions will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee of experts. Only three successful SIUE internal applicants will be invited to prepare and submit full proposals to the NSF.
Full Submission to NSF
The three successful nominees will work with the SIUE Office of Research and Projects to:
- revise and prepare materials for the external grant submission to NSF. The applicant will revise materials according to the internal reviewers' suggestions
- work with ORP staff to successfully route the proposal in Kuali Research by Friday, October 16th.
- Full Submission to NSF November 6th, 2020 by 5:00pm
