What do Industrial Engineers (IEs) do?

Engineering + Management: IEs design, produce and deliver quality products (parts or services) to customers in a timely manner at affordable prices. This involves not only designing and producing valued-added products but also planning processes, systems, equipment, and managing people and other resources efficiently and cost-effectively.

Which companies employ SIUE IE graduates at what starting salaries?

SIUE IE alumni work at companies such as Boeing, Caterpillar, Pepsi, Pinnacles Food, Schnucks, Kraft, Eaton, Purina Nestle, Lockheed Martin, Lowe’s, GM, Mallinckrodt, Monsanto, Chrysler, Emerson, Motorola, American Air, USPS, Intelligrated, Anheuser-Busch, BJC Health Care, Southwestern Bell, Master Card.

What is the future job market?

IE is projected to grow at 8% over the next 10 years, which means that there will be demand for nearly 24,000 more Industrial Engineers in the same 10-year period (BLS.gov, 2019).

What about job satisfaction?

Industrial Engineering was ranked 9th in job satisfaction in the United States by a report produced by NC State University (January 2018).

How popular is IE among female engineering students?

While the School of Engineering’s undergraduate female student enrollment is about 14 percent of the overall enrollment, IE enjoys an impressive enrollment of about 35 percent in the same category.

Are there IE scholarships for new freshmen and transfer students?

IE provides a one-time scholarship of $1,500 to each selected freshman or transfer student starting fall 2018.

What about accreditation?

The SIUE IE program is the only ABET accredited program in southern Illinois and the St. Louis area.
